I have stock RS drum brakes in the back on my '98. I've seen in some people's bottom lines a disc conversion kit, I was wondering where I could come by one of those. I know front brakes are the most important but man I'm all about style and ugly drums in the back are not helping my cause. If possible, a name, website and price would be awesome. Thanks, especially if this has been asked.

they are kits out there, but the cheapest way is to find everything from a yunkyard or a personal seller, except the rotors and pads, those you should buy new. but your looking from at least $150 to around $300.

i think it is called, all mitsubishi and it's in arkansaw. they sell the conversion kit, 2 calipers, 2 rotors, break lines, and mounting brackets and everything else you need for 270.

it's called pick your part dirt ass rear brake system for 80 bux bwahaha. Why I'm using the rotors and pads that came with it. Still plenty o pad left on it too. Haha the rears are warped though :(

Shop around at your local junkyards. The whole thing cost me $100. You can do the install yourself.

Just another option -

Why don't you just flat black the drums? I used some 1200 black paint ($5 at any auto shop) that I bought for the calipers. All I did was remove the drum case, take a wire brush to clean them, then sprayed them about 5 times. It looks very clean.


I thought about getting disks when I first got my enkei shoguns, because the drums were showing (rusty and ugly, like our stock exhaust manifolds) - but this was so much easier, and I like the way the wheels stand out more if there is just black behind them.

See Jason look what you started :( Now there are 2gs with shoguns all over the place. :( Nah, it doesn't bother me just suprises me that shoguns seem to be cropping up all over the place now on a whole bunch of different cars but they've been out for 3+ years. Hell, there is a car at my work that has them too. Very suprised when I first saw them. I was one of the few running around with them for a few years.

I wanted ro do the drum to disc conversion too when I got my wheels but thought I would try painting the drum to hold me over. Turns out that a well painted black drum is nearly un-noticable. All I did was remove the wheel, sanded all the dirt and rust off, taped off for overspray and painted the drums with several coats while they were still on. I used a 500 degree semi glosss black, cause thats what I had in the garage, and it has held up great and looks good enough that I might not even go to discs now.

First, although changing the drums to disks is a HUGE aesthetic improvement, I wouldn't categorize that mod as a looks only mod, in the least. The improvement in braking not only obviiously helps your braking, but it does wonders for weight distribution and handling.

Second, I've seen the recent increase in 2g owners acquiring Enkei Shoguns as well. In a sense, it's a bit disheartening to see your own orginiality watered down a bit, but then again, I think it's a big compliment to your own tastes. Besides, I'm sure there aren't that many people that live near you that have 2g's and Enkei Shoguns.

I agree about seeing more people with Shoguns. It's not a big deal. I kinda like seeing them on other cars just to see them spin (I can't see mine when I'm driving). Although, something still original is I still haven't personally seen another car with them on backwards like mine. And you're right. I've only seen it on one other 2g personally. I've seen it on 4 other cars ... an Alero, Civic, Accord, Civic.

Since we are on this topic does someone want to list the neccessary parts needed. (*sits backs and waits for the "use the search" post :) )

I might get the shoguns due to the $800 price tag with tires mounted on them.

Damn they are THAT cheap now??? 2.5 yrs ago it cost $1500 for tires, wheels, warranty, tax and other hidden costs.

I got my shoguns long before I saw any other cars with them on! I ain't a follower! Actually I have yet to see another set in so cal! Besides, I got them for $100/piece for 17s because a place was going out of business and they were selling everything quick - good deal.


Besides mine swirl backwards relative to Jason-esiT, plus I have the red centerpieces. so I am different.


Hey, I've heard from everybody that changing the rear drums to discs hasn't made much of a big deal at all in stopping power. Everyone seems to say changing the front discs to cross drilled + metal pads gives the most dramatic improvement, in terms of a cheap way to fix up your breaks.
