i was wondering if any of you know if i can fix an inner tie rod by myself. the earliest i can have it fixed is saturday, and i have a jackass at work that wants to race me thursday. thanx

what does the guy have? If you had parts you could change a tie rod, but you would have to get an alignment (I think).

the guy that is going to fix it owns his own shop, and works for mitsu. do you have any idea how to fix it or know shere i can get instructions?

As far as the tie rods go... if this guy is a Mitsu mechanic, then he will have access to the HUGE eclipse shop manual. This thing gives you a step by step on how to fix EVERYTHING on the car. If you need parts... Glen with the HRC Stage 4 setup may have the tie rods you need.... post up in the for sale/wanted section.

tie rods are mad easy. you need a socket set (metric preferably) and ratchet with an extension for some more torque and a hammer. once you get the wheel off and identify the part what you need to do is pull the lil pin out of the old tie rod end. just look underneath most of the work you do will be upside down. after that undo the nut on there. next loosen the nut up top above the tie rod end a couple turns. once that's done grab the hammer and whack on the large metal peice that the tie rod end connects into. i think you have to hit it from the bottom. yeah pretty sure it's the bottom. it should pop up fairly easily. if it sticks get some wd 40 or (insert similar product title here)to loosen it up. than start spinning the tie rod end off the tie rod. be sure to count how many turns it took to get it off. then take that nut off that you loosened earlier. put on the new nut that came with the tie rod ends, spin the new tie rod end on as many times as it took to take the old one off and start putting it back together. it should take maybe 10 minutes on each side. your first side will prolly take you longer cause it's your first time but the second one will be soo easy. yes you will need an alignment after your done your toe will be out eventhough you counted out the turns. good luck.

thanks for the responses. i have the tie rod and am getting ready to install it after work. as far as the guy in the t bird, its a v8 but totally stock. and from what i've been told he can't drive it. i have this posted in the racing section and will post the results tomorrow or friday.
