I want to buy coilovers for my eclipse and drop it 3 inches. is this a good idea or am i gonna bottom out all the time and crack my body. I dont have a body kit or anything. I want to go very very low and I am sitting on 17s. SUGGESTIONS? ? ??????

Go for it man! The stock front end can take some abuse.

At 3 inches, you wont bottom out that much. Im lowered almost 4 and i only scrape the front end on steep grades.

Are you being serious? because most people only lower 1.5 to 1.75 inches. Wont i hit my muffle or something like that and crack it?
Also, send me a picture of your car lowered almost 4 inches if you can im really interested in seeing that.

Avengers are a coil taller.

Im about 2.25" down and I scrape maybe twice a week.
If I were to be more careful I wouldn't scrape at all but I push the limits and oh well.

At 2.25 does it look really low? how much fender gap do you have?

i lowered mine 2 inches and it settled more than that. not sure how much though. with my kit and my 18's on 225/40's i am 4.5 inches in teh front. my friend had 17's and lowered his 3 inches with a kit on his, the bitch was about 3 inches off the ground. so i'd say since you do have an avenger, you should be ok.

Damn, i don't know how you guys with the 3" drops are getting your alignment in spec.With my 2" front drop, i am just barely in spec, and the guy just was able to get it that way. The front camber would not get any more positive without some modifacation of the inner fender well because the outer edge of the top control arm would hit the fender. I would say anything over a 2" front drop, you will have to do some mods to get your camber in spec. As for the rear, i just barely got the camber in spec with a 1.7" drop. I believe there was really no more room for toe adjustment too. I'd say if you wanna go that low, be prepared to go through tires, and the suspension will most likely not have the handleing it used to..You are making the suspension work in a very different angle, which will put much more stress on it. The choice is up to you, but i wouldn't go any lower than 2". This drop will get rid of most the big wheel gap, and it will give a nice, sporty stance, and you can get the suspension in pretty good alignment to help tire wear..

Yeah I lowered mine about 4 inches also. My camber was about -2 degrees all around and I went through my tires in about 3K miles. But hey that's why they make camber kits. It's fine now and my tires are perfect.

I HAVE THE SKUNK2 COILOVERS LOWERED ALL THE WAY AND I'M SITTING ON 18'S WITH 40 SERIES TIRES. I REALLY DON'T SCRAP MUCH, YOU JUST HAVE TO BE CAREFULL. I WILL SAY THAT MY CARE CAN TAKE CORNERS LIKE A CHAMP! IT'S AN AWESOME FEELING. YOU WILL HAVE TO GET ATLEAST A CAMBER KIT FOR THE REAR!

What the hell did you do cyan.. you get a body drop?

I don't see how you can be dropped 5 inches on 19s and be sitting perfectly.

Prob had the control arms cut, removed some metal, to bring the camber back in spec. Other than a camber kit, i woulnd't know how else to do it.

3 degree camber kit with custom coilovers. and then when i dropped it down off the jacks for the first time the inner fender bent the control arm upwards for me to get it outta the way, so i pounded it back out with a sledge and now it sits in there just right.

hehe. Amazing what you can acomplish with a sledgehammer. :)
