8353, My front right wheel Posted by skinny_one, Apr-04-02 06:10 PM
I jacked the car up and when I push on the topside of the wheel or the bottom side of the wheel, It doesnt move. When I push on the righ side or left side it moves slightly. I did pull a 90 degree slide and went off the road and heard a bang. The front right wheel squeeks when I turn the wheel. What can this be?

first... did you hit anything when you went off the road?
is your wheel centered in the wheel-well??? Does the wheel "look" like it is the correct place in the wheel well? Compare it to the other side of the car to check.
check to make sure everything is still bolted together under there. See if you front shock still works ok.
what year is your car? Have you had the balljoint recall done? Check the balljoint on the lower control arm... Noise coming from the wheel may be an indication that it is gonna blow out soon.

The wheel looks ok. I wonder if it is the wheel bearing? Or a tie rod?

If you have some play when you move it left to right, then its usually the tie rods. Try and wiggle those around some, they shouldn't have any play.

yeah... tie rods would explain the right to left movement... but the squeal... maybe the wheel bearing.

if the ball joint was bad then he would have vertical play. when the car is jacked up get some sort of pole to slip under the tire and pull up and see if the wheel will move up and down. if it does than your up for ball joints. it's best to do it while lifting on the frame.

yeah... that is if the balljoint has failed. There have been some people report squealing from the balljoints before they fail.
