8249, what springs to buy???
Posted by tunedin, Apr-03-02 12:43 AM
i just bought some 17" wheels for my car and need to lower it, but i don't know what springs to use, or how low i can go. i want to take away as much of the gap as possible and also want to have a smooth ride. i have noticed alot of you have pro kits, sportlines and H&R springs. which is best and where can i find prices or order them. thanx...Jason

I have the prokits and I love em. They have a little wheel gap still but you can tell a big difference and they make for a really great ride. I got them from modacar.com for like $220 shipped I think.

Ive got progress springs and I barely have wheel gap in the front and it is totally gone in the rear. My drop was about 1.5"

Eibach claims the prokits drop 1.2 inchs. I think they dropped that and then my car went down a little more as they settled. The sportlines are a more aggressive drop at 1.8 inches i think and I have heard of people complaining about scraping and not as good of a ride as the prokits. H&R's I have heard good things about too. I'm not sure of the drop but I know HadesOmega has them among others on the board. Hope this helps.

I put my Eibach Pro-Kits in w/ KYB AGX's about 3 or so weeks ago, and can fit 3 fingers between the tire & the fender on the front, and 2 fingers on the rear. I hope it drops some more.

Go with the sportlines. One finger between rubber and fender at all 4 corners. The ride is tight and the drop is sweet. Go with Tokicos or Konis, Stay away from those damn KYB AGX, they are nothing but trouble with any springs lower than the pro kits, even at that they still bottom out alot!

Also with the sportlines, you'll definately get more 'TANG, know what I'm sayin'!

Get the H&R sport springs. You will not be disapointed :) The rear sits higher than the front even with full tank of gas and one heavy ass 15" sub and 3 amps in the hatch. Ride is very good. Less wheel hop, less wheel spin and better braking since the front is lower than the rear giving better weight in the front...2" final drop in the front, about 1.6-1.7" final drop in the rear..

i would like to thank all of you for helping me out. i do like the ride with the prokit, and i've heard the sportlines have a really stiff ride. is this true? also, how is the ride on the h&r springs? i really want to have a smooth ride.
thanx....jason

Well i can't say what the ride is on other springs, but the H&R sports ride very well. You can feel most of the bumps and dips in the road, but it just feels like a true sports car suspension. I wouldn't say that the ride is all cushy or anything, but not annoying or unbarable, to me its just right for performance handling. I'd say about 25-30% stiffer than stock, not bouncy, good handling, no uneven wheel gaps, and the car has a very nice stance. I got a final drop of about 2" in the front, and about 1.7" in the back. You will need front and rear camber kits for proper alignment too. I ride on stock struts also. I am very pleased with theese springs. $211 at tirerack.com.

Yeah i have the 17s, and its in my sig, but the site hosting my sig pic is down for the moment. My front bumper does scrape on some places, mostly entrance drives that are too sloped. I'm still gettin used to the drop, but i rarely scrap anymore. Entering and leaving sloped drives requires you to take them at a good angle, that usually helps a lot. Be aware of parking cement blocks too, i've had a few close calls not remembering my amount of drop. You can see some before and after pics on this thread, the pics might not work until tomorrow(Fri). http://www.2gnt.com/dcforum/DCForumID15/2682.html
Check that out for my pics.

Did I make a good choice? I got H&R springs that drop 1.7 in the front and 1.4 in the back. I also went ahead and got Tokico Illumina's.
