8236, new power stearing pump? Posted by Mattcky2k, Apr-02-02 02:41 PM
ok i've been hearing this noise by my wheels when i turn sharply. so i took it up to an auto zone and had them give me some reason on why that was. the guy said i needed a new power stearing pump. could it be anything besides that? and what will eventually happen if i leave it alone for a little while? thanks

Have you checked the power steering fluid level?

I would vote for a loose powersteering belt. Most powersteering problems are low fluid or loose belt. You can tighten it at the tensioner pulley in a matter of a few minutes. Just remember to loosen the lock nut first and tighten it after you adjust the tension.
If your pump is still noisey add some lucus powersteering additive. It will quite your pump down quite a bit. You will have to drain some fluid out first. Under reservoir or loosen a powersteering line going to the pump itself. This requires the car to be on the rack.

I would check your fluid SOON. If the pump is not bad and you are just low on fluid but you run it too long then you'll burn out the pump and HAVE to buy one.
