Are the GSX twin piston calipers a direct swap on a GS? I've heard that they are but the rotors are a little bigger. Is this correct? If the rotors are bigger, wouldn't the calipers need to be positioned further away from the hub? I've found some calipers for $20 a piece that only need to be rebuilt and I'm considering getting them and rebuilding in my spare time, then swapping. Any ideas?

i'm pretty sure they are but you'll need 17" rims to clear the calipers. i wouldn't mess with rebuilding calipers just pull something out of the yard.

you will need the brakets that come with the gsx calipers otherwise it will be a no go.. the rebuild should only run about 46ish.. just go to the tallahassee parts site.. should be on the main page under vendors.. and get the caliper kit.. part# mb857840 it contains all the seals and such.. basically to do the swap.. all will be needed will be the calipers, brackets, new pads, and gsx front rotors... and new brake line if needed.. and yes you can fit the calipsers in 16in stock rims... remember the 95-96 gsx's came with 16's :-)

Dual Piston calipers are a direct bolt on for us. I have the brackets already and they're like 25% longer than the stock RS ones. The way they work is that the holds for the bolts are in the same place but there is more material on the sides than our brakes. All I need is the calipers, rotors, and SS lines to complete my braking overhaul. The rotors are a little bit larger than the stock ones we have and are thicker I think. Know where I can get some calipers from for cheap?

If you do the swap... Do you do something with the rear brakes, too??? Wouldn't you need a brake balance controller to distribute the stopping power correctly?

no.. there is no need of adjustmant of the proportioner. the reason i have heard that the proportioner being diff on the gsx is because of the accual power being put down via the rear wheels that the engine is spinnin them or something.. but i belive there is no need to adjust the proportioner if just doing the swap/upgrade in the front.. and the rear discs are suited just fine unless you want to do a bigger brake upgrade like aem or something and spend $$$
