I have 18 on my car with 224/40/18 so my question is what is the right psi that me tires should be , my car is an 96 rs??

you can either put them at 30 PSI(that's what it says on driver door jam or you can put them at what the tire says it's max PSI is or in between whichever you prefer

I just had one of mine patched and was told I was running them with too much pressure. I have 17's with 225/45 and now run the fronts at 32 and rear at 29, I had them much higher before. The max PSI on the tire is when the car is at maximum weight...so running them towards the max is too much because when the tire gets hot, the pressure rises...and it could wear your tire quicker, handle worse, and possibly blow out.

or I may be wrong....

the factory recommends that you put the stock tires at 30-32. that is the recommended PSI on the stock tires. usually it's up to preference. from my experience with tires. the PSI on the tire itself is the max pressure that is safe for those tires. if you were told that you were running them too high then how come all the tire shops put your tires at the max pressure on the tires. if you want to put them up to the max pressure, then leave them about 2-4 psi lower than on the tire. that way when they tires heat up, you don't have to worry about exceeding the max psi.

i install tires all day at work. the main thing that is used to estimate tire pressure is the weight of the car. at my shop we put FWD 2g's at 32/29. thats what i use. don't read the tire and say oh ok and put it at 40. most common mistake made with tires. low pros can hold laot more than 40 psi those directions are for the installer. to remind us not to inflate the tires over 40 psi when we're setting the beads. we don't listen but it covers the manufactureers ass.

ive got 215/35/18 nitto nt450 and the max is 50 psi. i put them at 45 psi because i get a better ride out of them than having set at anything less. my tread is still good after 3 years with them.
