I just got my 18's in....what size tires should i get??? 225/40/18 or 215/40/18 im dropped 2 inches....thanks

225/40/18's are closest to your stock tire outer diameter, which will keep your speedo and tach the most accurate if that matters. That's what I'm running w/ no probs. I'm dropped at least 2" (coilovers).

I believe the 225's have a little better selection as well, but I could be wrong on that one.

What width is your 18s? If they are 7.5" then I would think the 215 mike be too narrow. I don't think you'd rub with 225s. I'm pretty sure most of the people with 18s are running them alright.

whether its 225 or 215 that has nothing to do with the diameter of the wheel, only its width. Wider is always better though, so Id go with 225's even if you have to roll the fenders

the width does have something to do with the sidewall height. the number lets say 50 is the percent of the width which is the height of the sidewall so on a 215 50 17 rim the 215 is the width, the 50 is the sidewall height (50% of the width) and 17 is the rim size.

Get a 40 series tire. I read in I think car and driver that every car they have driven with 40 sidewalls performed better than any other!

oh ok. Didnt know that, i thought that the number was like a standard height regardless of the tire width. Well ya learn something new everyday.

...and my wheels are 18x8 (just for comparison). 225/40's will fit on 18x7.5's, but you'll get a little more sidewall flex I believe. Not a big deal though.

Ya i thought that the siewals were standardized too, but when i went looking for tires for my dad's van i came across a problem because when we wanted to go a little wider we noticed that the 2 tires which had both 60 sidewall heights were different sizes and i was like what the heck! then i did some research and found out what it really meant.

tire sizing goes like this. the first number is the number of milimeters there is from one side of the bead to the other. oh sorry bead is the spot that touches the rim. on the inside of the tire. if you measure across the tread and ove the sidewalls that's the first number. the second number is your aspect ratio. this means what percent of the first number is sidewall. and of course the third number is rim size. what makes tire sizing complicated is that the sidewall is measure in percent. to answer your question. you want 225's. reguardless of the width your gonna need 225 40 18. 225's on a 7.5inch rim is gonna be a little extra but it won't be any kind of problem. 225/40-18 is actually a perfect fit on 18x8's. but BE WARNED. no matter what tire you get your wet traction will suck. 225's are very wide in that profile. if your gonna get 18's look at good tires. like michelin pilot A/S. they're about 240 a peice in that size, but your lookin at 18's so your gonna pay major cash anyhow.

you'de be better off goin with 17's. if your lowered on 17's with 225-40-17's no one would know you weren't on 18's. above 17 is gonna hurt in performance. plus you have more tire options and cheaper tires.
