6304, Installing a strut tower bar...
Posted by Mathas, Feb-01-02 07:08 AM
Probably a pretty simple process, but I want to make sure I do it right ;) Anything special I should know, other than make sure the car is jacked up?

It's a front upper brace, btw.

Thanks in advance,

you dont even have to jack the car up, just remove the 3 nuts on top of the strut tower under the hood, add bar, tighten 3 nuts back down, easist mod you can do...

Do you really need a torque wrench to do this? I know the three nuts on top of the strut towers are suppose to be tightened to 32 ft.lbs... I did it on my last eclipse without the torque wrench and had no problems. Ive wanted to put it back on this car but wasnt sure about that.

32ft/lbs is like hand tightened, basically spin the nut until it is almost locked and then tighten another 1/4 turn. Don't over tighten, I ripped a stud off my friggin strut cap, had to tear down the whole front driver side suspension, and rebuilt the shit.

Thanks guys. I knew it was simple, I guess my original question was along the lines of fasterGS's(i.e. torque, etc.).

Took all of about 20 minutes(I think the nuts had been put on with an impact wrench... I'm not a weak person, and could *barely* break them with a standard wrench). Been too much traffic lately to really test it out, but initial impressions are good ;)

I have a good torque wrench and breaker bar that I bought when I started working on the car. VERY good investment. I needed the breaker bar on all 4 corners to get things loose when I was doing my suspension. You also don't want to undertorque anything in the suspension because it's hard to drive the car if that shit comes apart while driving. Just ask the guys that had their ball joints come apart while driving.
