6118, Can i do the suspension myself?? Posted by fasterGS, Jan-27-02 12:48 PM
Hey all... Ive been looking to upgrade the shocks/struts and springs on my GS. Is this something I can do on my own?? Anyone that has either for sale i would be interested in talking to as well.

You can do your rear yourself even if you are a beginner but the fronts might be a little trickier. If you know your shit just go for it.

It's not hard at all. Never having done it before, o tore into it and got it done in 4 hours, and the first two were the same corner, trying to make those damn coilovers that i ended up throwing away fit.

I did mine myself with nothing but the chiltons manual as a reference. It took me a while, especially the fronts, but its easy to do. I would check dsmtrader.com and thepartstrader.com to find used springs

use the info on www.vfaq.com and http://www.houstonhardware.com/~cbehnken/struts.html
to the T, even torque specs.
easy enough. make sure you have a buddy, and plenty of rags.

You really need someone to help you out on the fronts to make it a lot easier. We had to raise and lower the wheel hub to get the sway bar link off, and other stuff requires two people to make your life easier...

Also keep in mind that that you will need to get an alignement after the suspenisions mods, so make sure you find a shop in your area that will do lowered vehicles.
