Hey, I think I know what the prob is, the pasanger wheel bearings. Has any one ever changed them? How hard and how much? Help me master!

I know my 99 Eclipse GS had a recall on the front ones, I just got my car back today cuz mitsubishi changed them for free = )

Well I dont' think the front has bearings the rears do. Haha I've changed them too many times. They're sealed so they can't really go bad though only reason I changed them is cuz of the little drifting accident bent the hub up. I got bent hubs chillin in my room right now. ^_^

The front has to have berings, that's what allows the wheels to turn. I have taken mine out and regreesed them. You have to take apart the hub. There is a big bolt, (i think it is 21mm) that is put on VERY tight, that holds the hub together. Once you take that off, the berrings are under that.

then what do I do after that? bang some new badboy in there?

There will be two sets of bearings, an inner and an outer. If you buy new ones, just regreese them (it's best to use a bearing greaser), and stick them back in the way you found them.

I think you should take a quick shake of my rear passenger side hub (and listen to it too) if you think they cant go bad. Mine does have 160K miles on it. Yet another reason I dont drive my car.

hey sealed bearing can go bad! They are only suppose to last so long. heat is what breaks down the grease inside. Being sealed stop the grease from oozing out and dirt from getting in. You have to check out the bearing yourself before saying it is or isn't the bearing. We have to rebuild big pumps and motors all the time cause our building is starting to get old. We usually check with the handy dandy long screwdriver. put i part to your ear and spin the shaft and listen for a grinding noise or anything that doesn't sound smooth.
always check for the smiple things first though

now i know that the front has bearings but when i went to get the rear on my 98 RS done they said that you have to replace the whole rear piece and it costs like 300-400 to do that. is that right?
