5825, Energy Suspension Motor Mount Survey Posted by trwebb26, Jan-10-02 05:06 AM
There have been a lot of people installing the motor mounts lately and all of them say that vibration inside the car has increased. How much are we talking about here?
1) These things don't shake that much. You can barely notice the difference. 0 Vote(s) People who voted:
2) It shakes a pretty decent amount - Benefits outweigh problems - BUY THEM!!! 1 Vote(s) People who voted: Kiku
3) It shakes a pretty decent amount - I'm leaving them in, but I wouldn't install them again. 0 Vote(s) People who voted:

you definitely can feel it. but i do think that the benefits outweigh the negative.
i imagine that if you had a solid motor mount it would shake even more!

I'd trade the traction for the shaking any day. Its incredible how those 4 peices of ruber make such a huge difference in wheel hop. DO IT!
Beware though. the rear mount is a pain in the ass! Front took 5 minutes. Rear took almost 2 hours for me.

i heard it only shakes at idle, and you don't even notice it when the car is moving.
haven't put mine in yet.. stupid winter.

Mine shakes a lot at idle and low rpm before you get moving (under 5 mph). It may also be worse due to my ported and milled head and rough idle. You can definitely feel it in the steering wheel. But it's not unbearable. Just imagine driving an old rough idleing car and that's about what it feels like.

yeah that's true, it vibrates when you are idle, my engine seems much smoother than before while driving though.
The rear motor mount is easy to remove IF you take the windshield washer fluid reservoir out. And dont try to remove just the rubber mount, take both of the mounts out (one that bolts to the tranny case and one that bolts to the suspension frame). Then dissasemble the motor mount appart on a table versus trying to do it inside the engine bay =)

Eclipse804 vegasdsmr - when your racin, or gettin on the highway, anything above 5500rpms, the car shakes like its havin a seizure....for less than 30bux to your door, and the ability to spin the wheels without jumpin around like a bean, it is definately a good mod.

what i say bout them is that at idle, you are vibrating more (kinda V-8ish). when your racin, or gettin on the highway, anything above 5500rpms, the car shakes like its havin a seizure. i dont mind at all, it just freaked me out the first few spirited runs i took after the install.
for less than 30bux to your door, and the ability to spin the wheels without jumpin around like a bean, it is definately a good mod.
launching is improved which equates to a faster car

5833, Prothanes were LOUD for me Posted by juan, Jan-10-02 10:23 AM
While the Prothane inserts worked (no wheelhop even with mad clutch drops), the noise was brutal. It was actually painful in the 6000 rpm range. There is a rattle in the dash somewhere that gets ridiculously amplified with the inserts. I had to take em out.
The Energy ones are softer, and few people complain about noise.
I gather that they are close to the ideal solution. The Prothanes are essentially too stiff for a street car. They would be better for a race only car, for which the Energy ones may be too soft.
YMMV.

Just finished up installing the Energy Suspension inserts a couple hours ago. Like everyone says; front is easy, back is a little more difficult. I made the mistake of thinking I could unbolt the back motor mount and slide it under the bracket that is bolted to the trany. I ended up unbolting the bracket that is mounted to the trany (anyway) to remove the rear motor mount. So if you plan on adding the inserts, just unbolt the bracket that goes from the trany to the motor mount and you won't have to remove the rear motor mount.

5835, motor mount shakes Posted by trwebb26, Jan-12-02 02:54 AM
how are the shakes with your newly installed motor mounts???

I haven't even taken it out for a spin with the new inserts. I am also doing the timing belt, so once it's all finished then I will test em out.
