Well i just got my wheels...so the next thing is going to be to lower a little. From what i have read, we can lower anywhere under 2 inches without running into camber probs, which is fine with me. I live in GA (very moderate climate)so im thinking 1.5"-1.75" springs would be good. Would this put too much strain on the stock suspension causing it to wear out? If im not mistaken, I have some rides on here that are lowered like 3 inches! Just curious and looking for an excuse to post another pic of my new wheels haha. Seiously though...any advice?

Depends on what you feel like putting up with as far as swerving around potholes and going slow and sideways up driveways. Basically, just preference. IMO, low is good.:D I used to have my ride dropped around 3-1/2" all the way around. Once I got my 18's, that wasn't happening. Right now the back is at about 2 to 2-1/2 and the front is about 3. Oh yeah, I used Weapon-R coilovers.

well i used to have it 4inches down all the way around.. with 17s.. then the front kept bottoming out.. so i raised the front one inch.. and was fine.. but the camber on the front tires was bad.. then i traded and got the 18s which i have now. left the height the way it is.. and its fine.. the camber is fine now.. its wierd.. but my boy has 17s and its dropped 5 all the way around.. well he doesnt realy drive with it. he did when he first dropped it.. and it was bad he said.. so at shows he just drops it all the way down.. but its usually pretty low.. but the 3 4 isnt to bad.. i dont scrape much and speed bumps are no problem.

You can never be too low.

i went 3 inches. looks wise its not enough, drive wise its way to much. I look at it and it looks high...... I drive it and my new bumper gets scraped way to much. I guess im ok here in the middle.

I would say 2.5" is about as low as I would go because you have to be very careful at that height and anything lower than 2.5" you really can't go too many places. Next summer I plan on doing 2.5" but I change my springs every few months so I doubt I will keep that too long.

depends on rim size and driving conditions. if your a suburban warrior with nice flat roads than let the fokker spark. i live in the hills and potholes are a b'. just have to experiment with what you like but the lower you go the more uncomfy your gonna get (generally)

well remember this our suspension wasn't made to be lowered. If you lower it too low your arms will butterfly meaning they'll go from this

Anyway the cornering characterstics will change a lot, you'll have a lower center of gravity but since the arms are like that you'll experience sudden oversteer or sudden understeer at the limit. I've seen this on AE86s they add block to the arms to raise the arms higher so it won't butterfly anymore. They said the result was cornering was incredible, it made crappy tires into super tires.

That's one thing to think of

another thing to think of is that our bumpers hang VERY low so you gonna scrape and EEPPS O_o maybe even crack you bumper. Haha nothing a drill and some zip ties can't fix. Hehe aslo if you have the RRE Front lower tie bar you gonna scrap that bitch up badly. Speed bumps will scrape, ramps, let's just face it it sux lowering our cars too much. Plus you won't be able to fit the jack under it, you'll ahve to get a special jack or drive up on blocks. Don't forget camber wearalso, gotta get camber adjusters and an alignment to fix that.

I am lowered 1.5 inches on 16's and before I got the camber kits I was going through tires every 3 - 4 months.

Also about the RRE front lower tie bar, I had mine "custom bent" by some of the shitty roads here in Tampa. At least it has better ground clearance now! :)

I am dropped 1.5in and I personally wouldnt drop it anymore than it is now. I dont scrape that much right now, but when I do my heart jumps. Plus in SCC they had an article that stated dropping your car more than 1.5in will negatively affect the handling of the car. If you lower your car too much the suspension geometry will be adversly altered (like hadesomega said) So do you want a max drop for looks or do you want better handling??

That was what i was thinking...1.5-2"...But that comes a little later. For now though...is there any way to clean up the whole wheel well area? Painting calipers is a definite...but the area like behind the wheels is friggin nasty...any ideas?

I got sportlines, 17" rims, and 205-40-17 tires. That is as low as I would go with mine. It looks low enough for me, and I doubt I could drop any lower and maintain driveability. Sportlines give it a ferrari-esque stance. Low, and stiff.

Excellent...that will be next then. I got the wheel well thing taken care of by just pulling off the wheel and spraying some de-greaser in there then going to work with a sponge and soap. I was amazed at how well it cleaned up. I had thought about getting tires other than 215/45/17's but the guys at discount tire said that would affect the oil pressure and basically confuse the car as far as how fast it thought it was going and that I would need a chip to correct that. How true is that? Anyway thanks again for all the help...my ride is slowly becoming more and more badass!

it might throw the speed-o off a few. Nothing major tho. 2-3 MPH. oil pressure isn't affected by wheels/tires. I seriously doubt it anyways. The transmission has a cable that hooks up and basically reads how fast the tranny is turning I think and registers that to the speed-o. Smaller tires are gonna turn a lil farther, thus making the speed-o incorrect. I think you can get it calibrated, but here, we have the digital radar signs up, and I figured that mine shows about 2-3 MPH too much. SO I go between 40 and 45 to go 40. No biggie.

I saw a truck at a show, chevy s-10. The dude had a big kit on it and it was DROPPED! I asked if he had problems driving. It was an S-10 SS too. Those are pretty fast for trucks I think. He said he could not go over 45 with it. That just sux.

I just got them both for $200 off ebay...thinking about selling the springs though and getting pro-kits 1) because i could practically make my money back and 2) because my driveway is a bee-yotch. anyone have either of these setups?
