Since I am now officially back on "Team 14's" I was wondering if the camber wear would be as extreme as they were when I was on my 18's? I remember a topic a few months back when kaptain mike said he was lowered 3" and it didn't affect him as much because he was on 14's? Anybody want to explain to me why the camber wear would not be as bad on 14's that are/were the same height as my 18's? In other words I had 215/35/18 (which is equivalent in height to my current set-up) 195/70/14................show me the way folks, Thanks

14's aren't as wide so camber adjustments aren't as obvious. if your lowered you'll still get some shoulder wear but it's not as bad as the 18's cause they're 2 about 2 to 2 and a half inches wider

because the sidewalls on your one-eights were stiff as hell, and didn't give. so when you're camber was off, it just ate the shit outa the inner edge. the 14s have sloppy sidewalls, and the tire will even itself out as you drive and will wear more evenly. once you put on your rear camber kit, the key is, have an alignment shop do your camber, and you have to go there with a full tank of gas, and don't take anything out of your trunk. then tell them you want it set to 0 degrees instead of what mitsu says(-2 degrees). and you'll be cool. cost me two nitto 555's to learn that

width and size make a HUGE difference. on stock 16x6's, 205/55s, i showed NO wear dropped 1.5 ... now with 17x8's (225/45) the rear insides are bald .. i also have zrated tires, but that doesnt make THAT much of a difference ( as in not the diff between no wear and complete wear).. the sidewalls are a lot stiffer and have no wear to flex to spread the wear out. im hoping cheap tires wont wear as bad

i had an alignment done, if there is still a ton of wear im gonna take the 0degree advice

the weight of the car (gas, full trunk) shouldnt matter because the alignment is done with the car on a lift isnt it?

but they measure it with the car sitting flat. our camber changes so much with weight in the rear, it's best to have it as low as it will ever go, then adjust it from there.

this prob wont be to helpful but heres what i found out.. but i have no idea why..

when i had 205 17r 40s and a 4/4 for a min then 3/4 drop..

i blew like 3 toyos, and ate the crap outta the inside of my drivers side tires..

when i got the 235 18zr 35s they are fine.. i mean when i swapped rims my 2 month old toyo was all bald on the inside...

these 18s are 3 months old and they are fine..

all i did was put the new rims on.. nothing else..

Just for reference, if you lower your car, you need to do an alignment again. All the suspension angles change from what they are supposed to be at nominal height, and as such they have to be re-adjusted.

The camber change is more noticeable on a larger tire, that's why there are slightly different camber and suspension alignment specs for a GS eclipse with the 16 inch rims as compared to the RS eclipse with 14 inch rims. The 14's are more forgiving, as Amish pointed out.
