4991, what is more important?
Posted by madregal, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
is it more important to get GOOD spring vs. GOOD struts?

modacar.com is offering a suspension package of
4 Gold-Line Performance Springs
4 Koni Red High Performance Struts for $425 plus shipping

I was thinking of getting
4 Eibach Prokits $214 (Modacar) shipped
4 kyb gr2 $191.61 (tirerack) shipped

total: $344

i am of course assuming that koni reds are better than kyb gr2s.

what do you all think?

Aren't the GR2's a stock replacement?

yeah.

GR-2's are slightly stiffer than the stock shocks. Supposedly they are more heavy duty so they can withstand a lowered ride. I have em with my skunk2's. They're comparable to the Tokiko nonadjustables (about same price too). I never heard of Gold line springs, so I would stay away from that package. Koni shocks are really expensive, so those must be some cheap springs.

I'd say if you have to choose, get the better strut.

i think the gr2 are stock awd

I'm not sure about that, but I know we all have KYB shocks stock. Or at least most 2g's do. But I know for sure that the 2gnt does not come with the GR-2's stock. Oh and the AWD Gr-2 is also stiffer - Kaiser has them on his car for better performance, but he says the ride is really stiff.

back to the question at hand...

i've never heard of gold line springs either... but i have heard konis are one of the best. so you think i can sacrifice on the springs to get good koni struts?? could the gold springs be worse than stock?

If you are looking to get your setup at Modacar, see if they would switch out the GoldLines for some Sprints. At least those are a well know name brand and I think they are only 125 bucks at Modacar.

But my best suggestion is to not settle for anything you or any body else here is not too sure about. Its better to get good quality brands that you can trust and that are a "Tried & True" setup. Its worth it to save for what is best for your ride. Don't screw your self on your suspension.

wo0t!
i dont think they even have a red application for our car, might be a misprint, when i have looked, i have only found the yellows...........

I've got the koni yellows and I love em, their customer service is second to none. I've never heard of the reds made for our car, but I looked em up on the site and they're listing them under 95-99 eclipse, so they may have just started making them. but I'm pretty sure they're just a stiffer replacement strut, so they can compete with all the mainstream lines out there. They list the reds as adjustable so that doesn't sound too bad if you're just getting an Eibach Prokit or some set of springs that isn't too stiff. when do you plan on buying your setup? I'll have an Eibach Prokit for sale once chris gets off his ass.

osiris, you're bouncy because you need stiffer shocks, you're probably bouncy in the rear I'm imagining....

I guess that I am not saying anything that hasn't already been said. I would stay away from any brand of springs that you have never heard of. I ride on tokiko's and ground control's and I really like them. Your suspension is not a place that you want to skimp. Remember if you have a bad suspension you will have to put up with it every time you drive not just when you are at WOT.

thanks for all your responses guys.

after much thought (and because of my monetary restrictions at the moment) i went for the prokits and the kyb-gr2s.

Hey Madregal, could you tell me how the ride is after you put the GR2's on. I am considering getting the same ones. Thanks

haha the best combo is to have the best shox and springs hehe... Get adjustables and skunk2s and you'll be able to really tweak your supsension should.

Either way you stick it buying the cheaper less quality product will bite you in the ass somewhere down the road. But listen to these dudes they know what their talking about, it'll save you some bux if you just wanna lower and have a decent ride.
