4597, can i drive without...............
Posted by vegasdsmr, Oct-16-01 08:21 AM
so i put on a FSTB, and when i went to take off the nuts, the first one wouldnt budge, so i torqued the fuck out of it and the nut with a lil of the bolt inside it snapped off.

now the other two are perfectly fine, and i dont wanna create more problems by driving the car around town.

is it safe to drive with only 2 of the nuts connected?? the broken bolt is just chillen in the hole.

probably not too safe.

Should be alright, but i would try to get it fixed. That is a load bearing zone (the entire weight of that corner is held by that strut/spring assembly) so the weight of the car will work to hold it in place.

thanks dino, im lookin for junkyards right now to find out if they got any 95+ eclipse/talon/sebring/avenger.

the junkyard wants 85$ for the whole strut assembly.
satan wants $16.37 for the part, and 150 for labor.

how hard will it be if i do it on my own??? (takin off the whole assembly and putting a new bracket on it. mitsu part #103156)

thanks for the replys, and any other opinions r cool too...

Takes about an hour a corner your first time around. it's not hard at all.

Nah. Check vfaq.com .. there's a good walkthrough there, i believe, for installing some struts and coilovers that'll work.

it's pretty easy overall, but the first time will suck because you're breaking everything loose. once you take the wheel off, you'll see what you need to take off.

the bolt that tightens against the bottom of the shock assembly, the bolt that holds the U braket to the lower control arm, and the swaybar link that connects the U braket to the swaybars.

then the three(two in your case) nuts on the shock tower, and the whole assembly will come out. then unscrew the top nut off(yours is a 99 so it's probably not rusted solid yet. once you get that off, you'll need a spring compressor to get the new one back on.

hope this helps ya.

Save yourself the money and do it yourself. Go to http://www.tirerack.com and search the suspension products. You can get KYB strut mounts for $11 each. So I say do the front end with 2 new mounts. And then get yourself an alignment(you'll need one after this).

I think people who live in Vegas are friggin nuts. I was there this summer and it was 112 degrees.. and I remember in Dec last year it was cold as fuck.

well peeps in vegas learn to live with the heat. i hate it, but today how is your weather???its 12:50, midday, and its 75 degrees, blue skys, clean air. in summer, its africa hot(hottest ive seen it was 121), but once october cums around its beautiful. its what they call a dry heat, no humidity or less than 10% basically all of the time, so load up on chapstik and lotion.

and as for the junkyard search, there was one with a 95 talon, but they wanted 85 bux for the whole strut assembly. im gunna go check it out when i get sum schado to burn.

whats the diff between the KYB mounts and the ones satan will sell me????
