is there any truth to the factory max tire width on our cars? i have the factory listed max, but i wanted wider tires. have any of you gotten tires wider than the max? it looks like it will rub on the brake lines behind the brakes. anyone? just fyi, i have a 95 RS

I know you can go at least 235's.

Any larger may rub. At 225, I had to roll my fenders.

I use 225/45-17.

This of course depends on how wide your rims are.

I had 235s on my 17s before. Won't rub unless you lower it. If your cars lowered, you'll have to roll the lip under the wells like Jason did and I suggest some REALLY stiff shocks. 235s are heavy as hell and will slow your car down- but you will corner like a tank- i use make sharp turns going super fast without feeling the least bit scared.

I'm riding 215s now- much lighter and much wider than stock. if you don't want to be slow, i suggest these.

I would say 225.

I'm running 225/50/R16's on my 16x8" rims, but i'm also using a 1/4" space between the wheel and the hub..

Guys, you are missing the most important piece of the puzzle - offset. the offset of your wheel plus its width will dictate how large of a tire you can run. I do know of some people running 245's for autocross by using spacers for autocross. The problem you run into then is the wheel sticks out. If you were to do a widebody conversion and then use a crazy offset or wheel spacers you could actually run a 255. In fact, I know someone doing exactly that on the street. It is Rob who owns the Queeues widebody Eclipse in Florida.

i'm runnin 205's on my front and 225's on the back (thats how the tires came on my rims, i'm gettin new ones tomorrow) but the guy at the tire place said that 225's would fit fine on the front and that may be the case. i'm not really sure. hopefully they'll get me some spacers if they don't so i dont' mess up my new tires :x

I would stick with the 235 you have now. A 245 is really stuffing it on there with a 7.5 wheel. If you had a wider wheel and used spacers the 245 would go on. Matching the tire and wheel size is important for optimal handling.
