3776, Skunk2 Coilovers, what struts?
Posted by Ryan_Hes, Oct-28-01 10:37 AM
I have skunk 2 coilovers on my car, and am lowered about 2". I currently have stock struts and need perfance struts badly. What set of performance stuts do I need to match with my coilovers, and where can I get them? Thanks.

Not all of them will work. Don't get Tokiko nonadjustables cus Ian had them and you can't knock off the perch and have it rest right...it slips over the shock after a while. It works with my KYB GR-2 nonadjustables, beacuse you can easily knock off the spring perch. Don't get the AGX either because it offers too little travel up front, and the perches are not easy to knock off...sorry I don't know which ones "will" work except the GR-2 since I have those. But I know definitely that Tokiko nonadjustables and KYB AGX should not be used with Skunk2.

Anyone? Will Koni Yellows work with Skunk2 coilovers? Also where can I find KYB GR-2 or Koni Yellows for a good price?

GR-2's are only about 60 bucks each. I would look locally, to save on shipping. I think the Konis would NOT fit because it has a special small spring perch. Ground Control makes a special collar just for the Konis. Since Skunk2 only has one version, I don't think it would fit. Especially because of the way the collar sits, I think the Koni shock would not match the skunk2 size. It would have to be a perfect match, or then the skunk2 collar will just slide completely over the shock.

Got any local import performance shops? We have one on every other block so it's not that hard around socal. But even tire centers that do shocks might carry them. Like the discount tires here carries KYB and Tokiko. I would just call around, KYB is a factory brand, so most tire/shock places should be able to order it for you if they don't have it.

will kyb agx shocks works no prob with eibach pro or sport kits?

3794, RE: Skunk2 Coilovers, what struts?

Road Race Engineering suggests NEVER using the front agx shocks with any lowered car because they are too short. You lose over a half inch of travel due to the shock design. THey have a pic of the AGX shocks next to some other shocks and you can clearly see how it's too short. I think for normal driving with pro-kits it might ok, but for extreme driving or on bumpy roads you might be riding on the bumpstops all day.

are skunk2 coilovers adjustable?

Yes coilovers means they have an adjustable spring perch to adjust the height. Springs are nonadjustable.
