3567, Just changed brakes and getting a weird smell

I changed my brake pads last month and I never got a smell, so I dont think it is normal. What does it smell like??

I think it's brake fluid, but I'm really not sure. A friend of mine told me to take the brake fuel cap off when changing the brakes. Is that important. Also, I haven't changed my brake fluid. She seems to be runnin' fine, and the smell isn't bad, I just happened to notice it a little.
