3468, aight now... here's something you dont hear about every day Posted by iamnotwhoiam, Sep-04-01 04:55 PM
ok heres the deal. has to do with the rear suspension on our cars. i was hearing this clanking sound coming from the rear drivers side of my car, the other day i think i found the source. if you look up by the back wheel there is a u bar attached to the car and at the end of the u-bar there there is another bar that goose-necks down to the wheel. the culprit is where the goose-neck bar connects to the u-bar. there is supposed to be a gap on each side about 1/4inch and the gooseneck piece sits center on some sort of rubber bushing. Well for some reason the drivers side is all the way to one side and i think it is causing the clank when i go over bumps and the like. im not sure how safe it is being the way it is but i think it has been doing it for some time since i didnt know what it was. what i need to know for one is if anyone knows a way to fix it in a relatively cheap way. i already called the dealership and the cost of a new bar that comes with the rubber bushing and they want 165+ for the thing. i was thinking it was possible to pop some large rubber washers in there to recenter the bar and dampen it, so if anyone has any input on this or even knows what im talking about or even if this has happened to u, let me know :-) oh and this is on a 95 gs thanks..

what do you mean it's "all the way to one side"???the play goes up and down or side to side? that piece shouldn't have got loose unless you broke the factory torque on it and didn't torque it down good enough.

I had the same problem...but on the passanger side. it's the bushing that's in there is just deteriorated...
I replaced all of mine to NRG suspension...
if you don't want to dish out that kindof coin...just replace that one bushing...done.

you can buy the bushings from mitsu(or your local chrysler dealership). or you can get the NRG bushings from RRE.(if you do, get the hyperflex, you'll thank me later). they are pretty much a biznitch to install. they need to be pressed in and out. if you want to save as much $$ as possible on it, just buy that one bushing from mitsu, take off that arm and bring it to a shop w/a press and have them press out/in.

Actually.. the stock bushings have to "burnt" out with a torch. It's the only way to get them completely out. I had a full hyperflex set installed.... it's well worth it.

it's no theory now... :-) as soon as i get a chance im getting a new bushing set to replace all the factory ones.. it's seriously annoying and also affects the wear on the tires too... im going to get the energy supension bushings.. i found some good prices at www.suspension.com the whole set for $111 and also www.roadraceengeneering.com but their price is like $160 for the whole set...
