3444, the people who mounted my rims scratched them!
Posted by madregal, Sep-02-01 01:40 PM
i bought used wheels from my cousin...

i took it to my mechanic (he said he can get it mounted for me)
apparently, he took it to another shop for mounting... when he came back.. he asked me if i knew that one of the rims was scratched... since i didnt really check, i didnt say anything..

just today my cousin said those scratches werent there when i got it from him..he wouldnt have any reason to lie.. i would have paid him what i paid for even with those scratches... in addition to that, i looked and it seemed they even tried to paint over it...

now.. what should i do? should i confront my mechanic (damn i always thought he was honest wit me.. unless he really didnt know)... but anyway.. what kind of compensation can i ask for?

help me get my thoughts together...

Probably wont get any compensation. Most shops that dont do hi performance wheels and tires tell you up front they wont be responsible for damage. Most shops that are in the performance wheel/tire business have the appropriate mounting equipment to keep that kinda of shit from happening. I garauntee the avg tire shop doesn't have the appropriate equipment. So I pay twice as much to get my tires mounted cause the shop I use is the ONLY shop I've been to that didn't at least leave hard to get tire scrubs and sh*t on the wheels. All that and I turn around and put hella scratches and more just driving and parking! Long answer to an easy question. Confront but dont expect to be taken care of.

Unfortunately I would have to agree, there isn't much I think that can be done about it.

I know there are a few places which could touch up or refurbish scratched up or dinged up rims but if I remember correctly it is expensive, and there is no way a local tire mounting shop will pay to have the rims taken care of like that.

It is diffucult to keep rims looking nice. If you can't get around to washing them in the winter, the brake dust will eat away the finish, they can easliy get scratched up on curbs, and stuff like that.

actually, go back and complain. I had my wheel scratched by some guys who mounted my tires and after I pointed it out to them they compensated me for the cost of refinishing the lip of the wheel.

Can a rim that has been slightly curbed, barely on the edges, be repaired?
