33770, Squeak when doing a low speed turn
Posted by Th3DooM, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
A couple of days ago I parked my car in front of my apartment and noticed a squeak when I drive at low speeds, especially when turning the steering wheel. It sounds like an old fence gate or a faucet. I guess it's related to my old suspension, but where should I start? Wheel bearings are about 2 years old so I hope that's not the problem :-(

Squeaking like a faucet probably isn't the suspension. Once you turn the wheel and start moving, the suspension is probably loaded and not really moving. I would check brake backing plates, brakes and wheel bearings first.

Squeaks that might be caused by the suspension should happen while you are turning the steering wheel and the ball joints are twisting or when you are hitting a bump or uneven surface and the components are moving up and down.

Well I turn the steering wheel and hold it in position, then I drive and the sound is starting. It's only a short squeak, maybe for a second or less.

I will have a look at my brakes and bearings.
