I appologize if this has been asked before, I rarely visit the "handling/suspension" forum. I'm putting in a new drivers side axle and can't get the tie rod joints and lower arm joints apart. The shop manual says you need a special tool to separate the joint (MB991113). It looks like a clamp with a cord attached. Does the dealer sell this tool? Anyone else sell this tool? Will another tool work? I appreciate any help...I need it.

Dealership. Doubt you're going to find those anywhere else.. they're application specific, a hand help part of an assembly robot somewhere, i'm sure..

Dealer doesn't sell 'em. I called around today...nobody has it. I've driven my car once in 5 weeks, I'm so sick of working on it! HG, T-belt, axle, paint, fuel...so tired

Tallahasse Mitsubishi has a parts search by part number, search for it on google.com, because i don't remember the URL. Give it your part number and order the thing .. if Tallahasse doesn't have it, they'll probably get it for you.. you'll also have an idea of what you have to pay.

Have you tried a hammer? Helped me get my throttle body off tonight :-)

I don't know if this helps at all, The tool you mentioned is called a Tie rod/ball joint extractor. its a tool for separating a-arms/tie rods in tight spaces. I remember seeing the tool in a JCwhitney (www.jcwhitney.com) catalog in the tool section. It was like $10.00 Sorry I don't have the Item number.
Or Go to pepboys/autozone and ask for that specific tool,
Else you could go to local chrysler/dodge dealer and ask specifically the tool# they use to separate a-arms from Avengers/talons/seberans.

the best way to get a ball joint out of the knuckle is to get a heavy hammer and hit the knuckle hard where the ball joint goes in the knuckle. you wont hurt anything as long as you dont hit the control arm or tierod end. sometimes it takes a few hits but it will pop free. a pickle fork will ruin the dust boots on the joints, I strip about 500 cars a year at a high quality salvage yard and have never damaged one including aluminum knuckles.

Thanks for the input guys, I never could find the proper special tool. I stared at the suspension for a few minutes and figured out what to do. I disconnected the other ends of the lower arms where they bolt to the car. I left the 2 ball joints connected. I then used that pickle fork to bash the tie rod joint apart. It ruined the joint, but at least it was apart. A new tie rod end was only $13. Everything else was easy, no I'm finally driving. My next task is to find someone that can align a lowered talon. Most shops around here won't even try.
