For some autocross action id invest in Koni's.
They are great DD occasional autocross struts. You can set them to soft for everyday and crank them to firm for autocross!
Ive also heard good things about Tokico Illuminas. They are adjustable, and the shock/spring set for all four corners can be had for 450ish shipped off eBay :)
And yes, go for a balanced look IMO.
