30735, power steering system is driving my urge to kill......

Ok. After months of saying "i'm going to fix this" i get around to it today.

I slap a belt on. Aside from bearing chatter, it works fine. I go for a drive and oversteer like a bitch comming out of the neighboorhood. I laughed like a giddy school girl because my ac is blowing ice cold and i can steer with one hand again.

I go around the block and park. Sure enough, huge puddle of fluid underneath my right front wheel......... The cap is leaking.... I bend the tabs down on the resivoir cap and it's a tight fit. I go for another drive, it's still leaking. Not only that but i threw the belt. Not enough tension on the idler i'm guessing. My fault. I got another gasket for the cap but doutful it'll work since the gasket that is on there now is in pretty good condition.

I'm pretty spent for the day so i'm not going under the hood again until tomorrow. I'm thinking about running 2 gaskets on the cap and seeing if that will help....

Failing that, a whole new res can be had fairly cheaply from someone parting out or at a local junkyard.

You may also want to verify that it's not a hose going into the res, a hardline at the rack, or a line under the hood. I've seen all of those leak at one point or another.

It's leaking from the cap. Trust me. I tried bending the tabs down even more (but not before replacing the gasket) and it still fucking leaked. Just to be sure it was the culprit i placed a paper towel on the cap and wrapped a rubber band around it to hold it in place. 1 spin around the block (with the pump working when it chose to) and it was soaked. Doesn't make any sense. I think the pump is about gone too.

All the stuff is getting ripped out and i'm plugging the rack. No auto x in the rs. Straight line cars dont need it i guess. My arms and shoulders are fucking cock diesel compared to when i first got the car and they were sculpted then. Haha.

Doesn't bother me one bit gutting the crap out at this point because i've decided, hell or high water that i'm buying a 240sx next year for all my other 'useless' automotive needs.....

I dont spend any more money than i have to.

There are also a buch of bolts on the pwersteering pump you may want to tighten them down. I replaced my powersteering pump for like $50 shipped so i would just recommend doing that. The resevoir cap sounds like you might as well replace that whole set up while changing the powersteering pump and be careful when tightening down.

I ripped it out a long time ago.

you sure you didnt overfill the res?
mine did this at first when i replaced my rack.

i would only get worried if after 2 weeks of driving its still leaking and your stearing feels different.

Nope.

It had an on/off problem when i got it. When i parked her in the driveway after i got home with an empty wallet, the wheel would move on it's own, jerking back and forth so i pulled the belt off. The ac worked. The ps didn't. I just looped the lines on the rack, pulled everything off and i've been fine ever since. It sucks sometimes but i deal with it. Now my left arm is equally as large as my right. :)
