30590, I need help, im stuck!! Posted by barza21, Jul-01-07 02:42 PM
here is the deal, i am trying to remove both front hubs because i have broken screws and i have the replacements, the thing is: i got the main hub nut off, the really big one, i also got the disc out with the caliper, the only thing that is remaining to take out is the dust shield and the hub, but i cant get the 4 screws that have the hub bolt down!!!!! this is really anoying, i was only able to get one out, and i cant really reach the other ones, its being a PITA to get out!!!!
please somebody help me! i even bought those wrenches that have a bend so i could get alittle more reach, but still those things are mean and dont come out, any recomendations on how you guys got it out??!!
thanks

What you have to do is go to an auto parts store and either rent/borrow/purchase this wheel hub removal tool:
What I did was put the castle nut(that big nut from the end of the axle) back on until it was flush with the end of the axle, secured the puller tool with 3 lug nuts, and then cranked away on the tool to push the axle out of the hub enough to give you the clearance to remove the rest of the bolts. You may wanna soak the axle ends, where they are in the hub, with wd40. That may make the removal easier. My driver's side went fine, however, when I did the pass. side, I didn't have the castle nut on and the axle end mushroomed from all the pressure. I don't have to tell you how pissed I was at that point about having to purchase a new axle, but you live and learn. Do it right the first time.
