I have some GSX calipers that I'm going to powdercoat and fix up with the caliper rebuild kit. The caliper and bracket were sticking, and when I tried to take off the lock pin and the guide pin, they were stuck because of some rust. Here's a pic-



I can polish the pin easily, but anyone have any clever ideas of how to get the rust out of the hole? I'm thinking wrapping cloth around a pen or something and use a bit of rust remover. I'm sure there's a trick to it, like everything else in life

find a something that fits in there with some space, socket old drill bit, something you can put on a drill. get some high grit sandpaper preferrrably 600grit or higher (you just wanna clean it, not really take off any material) glue the sandpaper to the piece and make sure it still fits, attach to drill and use it like a really small hone. I used an old drill bit one time like this when rebuilding some old jaguar calipers, worked pretty good, just don't spin the drill too fast and make sure you keep is straight. blast out the slide with a bunch of brakleen when you're done

get a bottle of Muratic Acid and put 1Cup per Gallon in a plastic bucket.
that will remove ANY trace of rust and not harm the caliper at all.
down side is that it has to IMEDIATLY (dont go have a beer, or a smoke, NOW!) be protected with either paint or WD-40. so if your gonna paint your calipers this is a nice option.

make sure to do this outdoors as even the fumes can strip metal and cause it to rust

Simply use the metal brush attachment of a dremel and some PB blaster.

|Done.

Everyone should own a dremel or some sort of rotary tool.

Wire brush ftw.

get a bolt where the head fits in the hole good and run it through a couple times.

sand blaster? they are magical.
