30357, tokico illumina.... Posted by gsgoingT, May-09-07 10:13 AM
i'm installing tokico illumina with ground control springs, and i have a problem. I need to know how far nuts need to be screwed on shocks (i got two of them)

The big nut should be on the bottom, and tightened all the way like 20 ft lbs or so. The small nut is the lock nut.
Maybe post a better shot of how you have that thing assembled. Besides there not being a dust boot (which you usually need, because of the washer in it) something doesn't look right.

well about dust boot on ground control instructions it says to cut down large boot and keep it and 2smaller take out, and what do you mean smaller nut, both nuts i got are the same size, you said all the way down? you mean all the way down to the end

One of those nuts is taller than the other, both are the same diameter.
There's only one boot on the factory strut assembly, the bump stop is needed to be cut to maintain sufficient suspension travel.
Is that red thing a washer or polyurethane? If it's not metal, you will need that washer from the dust boot, otherwise nothing is keeping that strut from bashing in your hood when you close it, and it will have no compression dampening.
Also, you have both sides of the rubber strut hat bushing still in that thing right? The bottom side isn't seen in the pics, so I can't tell.

The washer under those top 2 bolts should be flipped over too.

the red thing is metal, yeah you have to cut down dust boot and keep the larger one(thats what i did), and yes i have both sides for strut(rubber thing) its not in pic though. But i still need to know how far do i need to screw those nuts in?
is this how far?

hey nightfall, you mean the edges need to be down?

Is the little siver metal sleeve also in/between those two rubber bushings?
Tighten the nuts until they cannot go any further.
And yes.

Nightfall is right, there is a sleeve that goes through the black bushing that the top mount attaches to. Then just tighten the nuts down as wicked stated. Just because you dont like the answers above does not mean you post somewhere to get the answer your looking for.
If you dont feel confident working on your car then you can always find a 2gnter near you or take it the strut assy to a shop and let them assemble it.

ok hold it now star before you say anything more stupid (i'm sure you are not a moron, but a smart guy/gal) First i have never said i dont appreciate what they told me so far, i appreciate, and i'm thankful for every reply but yours. second the reason i posted in general forum was because i thought that section has more people visiting and i thought could get answer faster, thats all now regarding damn nuts, during installation i didnt put in rubber thing that goes just before the top section and i couldn't understand what was i doing wrong Bottom line is if you are not going to help SHUT THE HELL UP
one more time thank you guys for everything, i finally got it right.

You seem to be confused. Your attitude is getting you in trouble. You got a nice warning from em and now your pushing the nice warning into a direction you do not want to be in. My advise for you to keep your mouth shut before I close it.
Your ignorant comment just earned you a headache. 3 headaches and you might not be able to log in. cross posting is not allowed.
