Hey guys,

My rotors and pads have been dangeriously low the last few weeks. They would squeak and whine every time I drove, I have new one's comming in the mail but they have yet to arrive.

Well today it finnally happened, as I was leaving my house, my brakes lost pressure and I slowly rolled to a stop. I managed to get home safely with the car and as I was looking around I noticed I was leaking fluid out of my rear left rotor and my brake fluid resivor was empty. I asked a friend of mine and he told me air managed to seap into my brake lines since they were extending to long to stop my car.

I just wanted to know, If I bleed my brake system, added new rotors and pads, will my problem stop or is there something else I need to worry about that might have happened? My car still stops a little but I have to hold the brake all the way down.

If you are leaking fluid you have a hydraulic leak somewhere. I would check the brake line and the bleeder port on that brake. If your master cylinder is empty you probably have air in the system and it needs to be bleed. If you have drums on the rear then take off the drum and check the wheel cylinder.

your friends theory sounds correct, I bet the front line to that wheel has a hole, just replace all the brake lines, pads and rotors like you said and you should be good to go

When you get the new gear, be sure to inpect everything very closely to be on the safe side. Personally, I'd remove the calipers and clean them up really good as a rule. Leave them on the lines, but clean them up nice and then add some fluid to the reservoir before pumping the brakes a bit. See if that won't cause the leak again. This time, you'd probably be better able to see where it's leaking and be sure of the cause before wasting time installing new shit that will end up failing for the same reason.

Yea I put more fluid in the resivor today and it was still leaking from that same spot, I took my car to a shop a month ago and they told me my pads and rotors were below minimum, so im not supprised at the condition of them now. New rotors and pads arrived today, so I will call up the family mechanic (He installed my new tranny for 100 bucks) and have him work on it this weekend :).

Dude. Put that tat to work. Get a jack and change the pads on those breaks. If the rotors got grooves... regrind'em at a brake shop for 10bux each. To install, you need a jack, some basic wrenchs, a C-clamp or equivalent. And get that 'family mechanic' to help ya.

After you take the wheel off, you only have 2-4 more bolts to go. Takes me longer to jack up the car and take off the tire, then change the brakes.

Bet there are lots of scrap cars out there with good brake lines, like the talon I have outside.

no they are not but you can get nice steel braided ones from road race enginering(SP) for 80 bucks

P.S. To the OP, since you are going to be messing around down there anyways, might aswell get some GSX calipers man, contact ScreaminE about those, he already hooked me up twice, Ide sell you the extra set that I have... But I have no Idea where it is :wallbash
