On my 99 Eclipse GS after it has been sitting and then I go to drive it my breaks make a noise as if they where going bad. The thing about it is , that its only after its been sitting for a few hours and it only does it for a small length of time. The brakes feel normal threw the pedal. And the brakes where replaced just about a year ago. Can someone please help solve this problem before something bad happens? Thanks

Is it a grinding or squealing brakes going out noise? If it's just squealing, put some of that brake quiet stuff behind your brake pads.

how long was it sitting? might be surface rust that's being worked off, if it was a really long time you might just want to go ahead with pads, rotors and a fluid flush. inspect the calipers and slide pins too

Look on the front counter at Auto-Zone, it's in a little packet. I think it's called Permatex disc brake quiet. Make sure it's the silicone type kind and not the spray can kind though, that spray stuff just makes a mess and don't work.

Probably all you will need is the silicone brake goo.

While you are in there, make sure to lube up the caliper pins too.

Also try backing up, there might be little rocls stuck between the rotor and the pad. if this is the case i learned. that you should take the tires off and get the little pebbles out. learned this from being dumb and "drifting" in gravel lots.

Unless the rotors are cast with the holes (like brembos are) do not ever run cross drilled rotors. Each hole creates a stress concentration, and in cast material, these are dangerous. I have seen cross drilled rotors crack after just ONE autocross. The stress that are generated during breaking and heat cycling cause the rotor to fail at these points. The rotor will actually explode.

I did a significant amount of analysis when we designed rotors for our FSAE car here at WPI. We were attempting to minimize weight and heat as much as possible at went through about 5 ideas (and another 2 to 4 iterations of the final design.) Adding cross drilled holes greatly reduced the strength of the rotors.

I have been using Power Slot slotted rotors and Hawk HPS pads for over 2 years now and they have held up pretty well (I autocross the car on a semi-regular basis as well)
