OK, I have a 1997 eclipse gs, no mods ,but im trying just to get the car running good ,but when ever I get something fixed something else is going bad. oh well thats a diffretn story. I noticed that when I go over bumps in my car that the front right clanks ,or is just making this banging noise. I pulled the tire off ,and couldnt see anything bad. Now the its squeking really bad ,and still clanking when I go over bumps any thoughts to what could be causeing this. Thanks for all your help.

This could be a strut failing or a bad bushing.

I had this problem last winter, it was a balljoint, then I lowered my car and replaced all 4 lower control arms. If your car is still under the recall, by all means get it done.

whats the number I can call to get this checked out and it like mileage if my car is still under recall or not

that is normal you have a mitsubishi. :)

i too had this problem about a month ago, went in for alignment and we discovered the driver side ballpoint was shot, threw a new one in and cured it.

There is no real number you can call, but take it to the dealer, or take the VIN to Satan, and see if the recall work has been done. If it has, you are not completely out of luck, some dealers will do it again, but don't bet on it.

If it has been done, and if you are sure it's a balljoint, then easiest way to pinpoint which BJ is squeaking, it to spray WD-40 or a lubricant of some kind into each BJ one at a time. And to tell if they are bad, jack the car up, and see if you get any vertical play in the wheel.

My 97 Talon had the recall done once with the previous owner and again when I owned it. Both free of charge. I have also had my 98 Eclipse done free. Have them look up the VIN history. The dealer here said it didn't matter that my Talon had been done before. They did it again without me asking. I went in to look for parts and they scheduled the free service a few days later.

Jack the car up so the wheel hangs free then lift the wheel up and down. If the wheel is off you can see the lower ball joint rise up and down in the socket.

Here is what a bad lower ball joint looks like. You should not see any movement between the balljoint and the socket. In this video it moves up almost a 1/4"! It will make a loud noise when you drop a tire into a pothole or when the wheel drops down quickly on uneven pavement.
