I just wanted to know if the brakes from a 3000gt VR-4 can be used on a 2g. I know a bracket has to be made but has anyone ever done a write up on the install. For the front and back. Also if I do decide on doing the gsx brake conversion all the way around. How can I mount the emergency brake setup with cutting anything up.

P.S. I am new but have been reading for months. I have a 96 eclipse rs.

guys have been using the vr-4 brakes for a while on tuners. you might want to look there for pictures.

Good for you, new guy, with the reading up on your own and taking initiative. Personally, I've yet to really delve too deeply into the 3kgt upgrade, however I would think the relative simplicity of the GSX set up would be ideal, where budget was concerned. Keep in mind that you would not have to also upgrade to cross-drilled/slotted rotors, high-end brake pads, stainless lines and synthetic fluids that you have to overnight from Japan.

You can make a simple start by sourcing a nice set of GSX front calipers and stock rotors from your local parts house. I recall thedawg one time saying that, even just stepping up to stock GSX rotors up front, you will see a noticeable improvement over stock. Then you just do your shopping for the rear caliper solution.

GSX brakes in the rear are the same as GST and GS. The rear disc setup is the same on all non-rs models. To mount the e-brake setup without cutting anything just get the whole e-brake and brake setup from a model with disc brakes. That way you won't have to cut anything. And that is what i did with mine in case you are wondering.

actually there are some differences in rotor sizes and thicknesses, the more you look into it the more it pisses you off though. mostly the same though, just make sure you use parts from the same year DSM and youll be ok.

For a project in school I fabricated caliper brackets and it CAN be done, but here is the thing...

the stock 12.5" rotors are not big enough to let the caliper sit all the way over them and still have the original mounting points mount to the knuckle, they are to close. Either you have to shave the caliper mounting holes down (not such a good idea) or get a larger rotor. I picked up a 13.5" rotor from a 2kgt big brake kit and cut out a peice of 3/8" plate and made it work perfect in no time. This made fitment a hundred times easier, and the pad sat completely over the face of the rotor.

cliff notes: cant be done easily. get 13.5" rotors and PM me.

Josh its the same principal 1g to 2g. There are more than a few just go search for the thread that was posted this past summer. I personally would have made the brackets a bit nicer. I read it once and dont feel like searching. Sorry, i have had my fill of tuners for a while.

I would really like to use vr 4 calipers though I am attracted to the 4 piston set up and I love the idea of have them on my car. Instead of making a bracked get I just get oversized rotors. Again if i seem repetitive i am sorry i just want to learn as much as possible.

if you really want some fun, go EVO brakes
you have to get knuckles from the 2000 Galant
then the big shinny Brembo calipers will bolt right up

I dont think that will work on a 2g. According to the picture from the dealer sites, the galant uses a lower control arm like the 1g. It only uses 1 lower ball joint and a true mcpherson strut. The strut bolts to the knuckle. Unless I am looking at the wrong picture but its for a 2000 galant.

yes the USDM galant knuckles will not work, you have to get the 99+ JDM ones which for some reason has a different suspension set up.
