29600, Need Help ASAP! Ball Joint Trouble Again...
Posted by ColtsNumba1Fan, Jul-12-06 08:31 AM
Man me and my buddy tried for 3 hours to get my ball joint arm off on the rear drivers side but with no luck ... i got the nut off the right side but the left side, the bolt head, will not budge at ALL ... ive done some searchs and the best 1 i found a guy said he fixed it with a saw ... any way to get it lose that you guys know of? what about that PB stuff wil it do it? it seems like that the bolt has froze up inside the bushing and i bet an airgun would get it out but i dont have 1 and will have to pay someone ... anyone had this trouble?

Tray, those freeze up all the time which is why alignment show custt ans swear when it comes time to the do the rears. Your is obvously frozen, get a sawzall and cut between the rubber bushing of the arm and the crossmember.

If you dont have access to one then rent one at a tool store for a couple hours.

Sawzall, all a hacksaw will do is make you sweat like a hog in the heat.

You can try an impact but its not going to work. Hell if you want to see this guy admit he cant do it...go for it. Just get the understanding that if he doesnt get it out then you arent paying.

As for the sawzall, you cut the bolt on each side of the bushing and get another bolt.

yeah ... i got the old control arm off and man was it hell .. the damn thing did not even wanna saw off, it f'd up like 3 blades, probably just cheap blades though, but i got it off and i used a regular bolt, not the same kind of bolt, the 1 that is square until the threads then its round, i used the same length round bolt, and added a lock washer, this should be good, anyone think it isnt? ...

also installed the upper control arm for the passenger side and it looks like that ball joint has dry rotted also and it probably wont last much longer, now i must go thru it all again but not today thats for sure!

Def order a new bolt from the dealer since that is how the toe adjusts. Your ok for now till the new one comes in.

If you ever want a blade that kicks ass in a sawzall, get one called the TORCH brand. They are very nice.
