I'm trying to replace my struts with tokico hp's and the sway bar link nut is stripped. Since it connects to that fork thing, can I just take the strut out of the fork and replace it?

You MIGHT be able to do it, I was able to replace the strut with the fork kept on, but I did take the sway bar link off in order to move the fork out of the way eaiser. I had the same problem and just sawed off the sway bar links and got new ones :shrug It's worth a try, the worse thing that happens is you find out you need to take them off.

i doubt it, i didnt have enough clearance to do it. I ended up killing the links taking them off bc mine were stripped. I actually just used vice grips on both sides (boot side and on the nut) and they finally came loose.

A lot of people, including myself, have had to cut them off and replace them. They are like $25 a piece from satan. I just went to the junkyard and found a decent pair on a car, and the guy gave them to me.

I am pretty sure you will have to take them off to change the struts. I dont think you can get enough clearance. If nothing else, gotta torch?? Heat that thing up a little and then clamp some vice grips on there, and it should come right off. Then just get new nuts.

You can get clearance it just requires some work. Get a long metal rod and place it on the ground and the lip of the strut. Then slowly lower the car which will compress the strut up which will take it out of the fork. The problem is im not sure if that will work with the sway bar link there, there might be to much pressure on the fork in order to move it out of the way. It is possible though, I just did it that way myself a few months ago. It is very unsafe though so I would just cut them and get new ones.

I wedged the bottom of the strut in it, and used a jack and it pushed it right up no problem. I didn't remove the wishbone at all, just played with it, and wedged it in there.

Just so you know its now a 75 dollar piece from the dealers. They changed the construction of it a bit (only one nut now, the rod at each end no longer spins freely) and no longer make the old piece, so they charge 75 bucks for it at the dealer :-\ I found this out after stripping mine while lowering it.

That's good they changed that evil design. Lot more expensive however, I payed a TON less for both of mine 3 months ago.
