So I did the GSX caliper conversion a few weeks and what a great mod it is. However, today I learned a valuable lesson. I did not locktite the bolts that attach the bracket to the axle/rotor/whatever.

I torqued them but thought that loctite would be too hard to remove when I get ready to do the powerslot +1 kit that i am planning.

Long story short, the top bolt vibrated out, the caliper swung down and hit the wheel at 90 MPH today on the highway.

Loud bang, horrible screech, pants peed (not really but it makes for good drame)

I stopped immediatly with the other three brakes and just rode the squeal out.

The caliper laying aginst the wheel carved two nice channels into my nice pretty Enkei wheel.

New bolt and a new balance job later I am back on the road but geez what an experience that would have all been avoided had i just used a little loctite. Lesson to all.

I've never had to use loctite on a caliper bolt, or bracket bolt. Always made sure they were all torqued down completely.

I bet that was a scary situation, especially at 90MPH. I'm glad it wasn't any worse.

dammit... now I'm paranoid... I'm always paranoid lately though, I just put in the whole suspension without a torque wrench :-\ So far so good, but I will get back in there and torque everything down to spec eventually.

Yeah I agree with cas and Josh. Never loctited them down 8 years in the shop and 14 years on my own cars. Never had a comback for something like that. Just imagien how bad they are to loosen when loctite isnt used, then add the hassel of loctite. You'll never get the caliper off without heating the bracket.

I have never loctited either but I know it was torqued because I bought a brand new wrench for just that install.

Are you sure you bought the correct wrench? There are ft lbs and Inch Lbs.

Curious, I'm about to put in 3000GT calipers. What are the torques I should be using?

thats what i get for a cheap torque wrench i guess because I compared it to a craftsman wrench and it was way off.

Arew you sure your not comparing a inch pounds wrench to a foot pounds wrench?
