28981, please help with clunking
Posted by drcobbs, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
Ok, so I picked up a 98 rs from a friend with a blown motor for a DD. I just finished it up today and took it for a drive, and its got a really nasty clunking while coasting. It feels kind of like a blown axle but it doesnt do it during accelaration, in fact thats the only time it doesnt. Any ideas would be greatly appretiated. Thanks

From the front end of the car, sounds like the driver side, and I can definately feel it on my side.

Check to make sure all the bolts are tight first of all. I would also look at the wheel bearings and make sure the axle looks like its in good shape.

Does the clunking sound come when you're driving in a straight line? Turning left? Turning right? Bad wheel bearing comes to mind...
