Well, about 2 months ago I installed skunk2 coilovers on my stock struts, due to lack of money for new struts. Well, the first month, the ride was a tad bouncy, but not bad at all. Now, I'd say all my struts are blown. The ride quality now is pretty lame. In the next month or two, I will be able to buy new performance struts, but until then, would you say that it is a bad idea to drive like this. Its very bounce, and 'jolty'. Is this bad for my coilovers/bad for my car?

its not bad for the car daily driven, it may have bad effects if you were autocrossing and had bad struts, but it will just be a bother for daily driving. take your time if you ave to, i rode on blown stocks for about 4 months before i got the koni's

Hey Ryan, I wanted to ask you, does your ride tend to bounce left to right (not just front to back) when going over certain bumps in the road? I'm pretty sure my KYB GR2 are still fine (less than a year old) but when I hit some bumps, because its so stiff, if I hit it unevenly, (if both L and R wheels don't hit it) it tends to make the car kinda bounce from left to right. Do you get what I'm saying? Did your car do that? My ride is so stiff with the skunk2's...

Mine does that sometimes on stock struts. I have Maxspeed coilovers which are similar to ground controls.

Eclipse804, I'm not sure if it bounces left to right. I will pay particular attention to that tomorrow and let you know. With my skunk2's,it's pretty bouncy, but every once in a while I'll hit a railroad track wrong and it feels really stiff, hard to explain. Imagine a car with only steel rods going to the tires. No struts or springs or anything. Imagine how it would feel to go over a bump with that -- That's what I mean by stiff.

I will tell you tomorrow if my car bounces left to right.

Do your guys Skunk's make alot of noise. Mine do. I am riding on stock shocks and don't want it even more boncy, like Marcus's, if i get the KYB's. But when i hit a pot hole or sewer cover in the road with my front suspension, it makes a very loud "bang"-like sound.

To clarify, mine aren't bouncy, they're just stiff. Like if I hit a bump, it will hit hard once and stop bouncing. It kinda wants to stay flat. I only get loud sounds from the rear if I hit a really big bump, but not over smaller things. The metal clanking sound is from the top of the assembly going higher than the length of the spring I believe, so when it all lands back down on the spring it makes that noise. As a comparison, skunk2's are about 550 lb/in in front, 450 in rear. Most people with ground controls get around 400 in front, 300 or 250 in rear. So the skunk2's are a lot stiffer because they are supposed to be a race suspension. Mike at RRE said he can order me new springs (exact same size) but a different stiffness (I think they are around 75 dollars a pair). I just might do that later on (put the rear softer springs in the front, and buy even softer springs for the rear).

my suspension is making alot of banging and noise too but i'm pretty sure ineed new struts, i hvae stocks and my one has busted opened and leaked all it's juice out, plus i'm prety sure i need new ball joints like in the recall. we'll see whats' up with them monday

Today I payed special attention to my car as I went over two sets of traintracks diagonally. My car does not bouce much at all from left to right, only back and forth.

Thanks, I think maybe my height isn't balanced real well. Its not a big noticeable left to right bouncing, but it just doesn't feel very stable...do you get what I mean?

Hey Ryan, you know what, I think its just that its too stiff. I paid special attention today, and the car doesn't really bounce left and right. It's more like if I hit a bump on only one side, the other side will tend to try to stay as flat as possible, so its kinda like you feel the road a lot more. That side will go up real quick and back down real quick, while the other side of the car doesn't really move much since it didn't go over the bump.

I think its too stiff so that it doesn't absorb enough of the impact, whereas normally if you hit a bump on one tire only, the suspension will absorb it. In my case, that one tire will move while the rest of the car tries to stay as stable as possible, and doesn't let it the suspension absorb much. Not sure if that made sense...
