28676, rear break conversion? Posted by DSM Femme, Feb-05-06 06:27 PM
I want to get rid of my rear drums and was wondering if the GST disk setup will bolt directly in/swap easily into my RS? :scratch

GST rear brakes = GS rear brakes = GSX rear brakes
all should fit perfectly

Peace, You can't use the GSX set up, simply because it's meant for AWD... You can use the GS/GST's... You can use the Calipers and Brackets from the Talon (not the AWD model), Avenger and even Sebrings... I'm not certain if you could use the backin' plates tho'...
The only parts you need for the conversion are as follows:
-Both Backin' Plates w/the emergency brake pieces/assembly --Rear Calipers and Brackets w/bolts -Pads & Rotors --Brake Lines (I'd recommend you get Stainless Steel) Would be best if your front brakes are equipped with SS Lines as well...
You don't need the emergency brake cables...it's easier to modify the backin' plates to fit the existin' lines... Rather then runnin' new cables, you can jus use the ones you already have...
Check this write up...best created...
http://www.rcaz.com/rcaz/sub%20indexes/drum_to_disc/index.htm
You can purchase the backin' plates from Mitsubishigraveyard.com for about $120.00 shipped... He sells the other pieces (calipers, brackets, etc.), but it may be cheaper to jus find them here or on eBay...
Peace, Jem

Thanks! I guess I'll have to do a similar write-up when I upgrade my front discs to GSX dual piston calipers in a few more weeks.

Would be nice, although there's not much to it really :)))
Though if your rotors are rusted to the hubs, then you might show how to take them off. Check this http://vfaq.com/mods/BrakeRotors.html helps. Although this method worked for me only in conjunction with a 4lb sledgehammer and tons of PB.
