28670, Suspension Question Posted by Slammed0, Feb-05-06 08:51 AM
Hey guys, I am new to owning a car. So I am still learning. Thanks for your time and advice.
Anyways, my suspension is shot. Car rides like crap and I can hear the front struts knock sometimes on bumps. My question is, what is the best way to go?
I know there is a spring and a shock. Do I just need to worry about replacing the shock or both? And does the coilover just replace the shock and you still have the spring?
1 more! If I want to lower it about 1 - 1.5 inches, do I just get springs that lower the car and keep normal shocks?
Like I said I am new with this suspension department. I appreciate anything anybody wants to say. Guys/Gals like you help new people get into the sport! Thanks!!!

eibach prolines with KYB adjustable shocks SPC camber corrections kits front and back
there are other options out there but these have worked well for me

1st quest: best way = coilovers, tein is good but around $1300 2nd quest: it sounds like all you need are new shocks, your springs will prolly never wear out 3rd quest: coilovers have springs included 4th quest: springs control the ride height

After I changed my struts with illuminas the car still rides crappy even at the softest settings. I believe it will only get decent when I fix all the bushings. Maybe you should look into that as well.

Eibach Pro-kits Tokico illumina's is what I would do if I was to redo my suspension.

That's a great basic cheap suspension setup for our cars, if you want to go even lower go with Eibach Sportlines rather than Pro-Kits. Also do a search here for "$15 camber mod" when you drop it.

i tried the 15 dollar mod thing but i needed to go like 3.5 degrees on the rears and the amount of washers worried me
i ended up with the SPC camber kits
it has spacers and adjustable brackets so i dont have to keep taking parts on and off to get the camber right
just loosen the bolt, pull the wheel out, tighten
expensive but worth it IMO

It's all preference man, Good way to see if your struts are blown is to push on the car a few times and let it go. If it continues to rebound they are shot. It's harder to use this method on the front of the car because the weight of the engine will keep it down. If you plan to work the car up and make it custom go for a new strut and spring setup. I currently ride on prokits and agx adjustables it rides nice to me but if I were to do it again the only thing I would change is to buy koni yellows but i'd like to ride on those before i drop the cash. You should do the same or highly review setups before you do get something.
