Two words: Money, traction

they're inexpensive. i got them for $450 with tires. They're 2" wider than stock, and five spoke, which i like. They're silver, which i think looks good on my black Eclipse. being wider, i can put more rubber on the ground, which means i can launch hardr and turn harder as well.

Not a bad investment, IMOHO

225/50's up front

Two of the tires, i really wan't comfortable running on wet Houston freeways 20 miles one way to work, so i put my 205/55's on the back.. Cornering is a dream. I can hang a hard 90* turn at 30-35 with no loss of traction...
