28109, About to drop the car...question!
Posted by jonhix, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
Hey i am probably going to go grab some Tein High Tec / S.Tech Springs with a 1.3" drop for 100$ this weekend....I have a 98 rs, w/ the 10th anniversary edition rims....do you think a 1.3 drop will be enough to eliminate the wheelgappage(or most of it)? I just dont like the Ginormous wheelgap ;/

Well i got the same springs on that you're about to install and i'm pretty satisfied with it. It was about 1.2-1.4 inch drop if i remember. I do have 18's on now and it looks perfect imo.

your stock struts will be toast in either a week or a few months.

(under the assumption thats what you are installing them with since there was no mention of aftermarket struts)

I would suggest not worrying about the wheel gap until you have the money for new struts too. There is no point in just slapping lowering springs onto your factory struts. You're only going to cause yourself problems along with the fact that you'll have to redo the entire install when your stockers quit on you.

I concur with his statement. I have switched my suspension about 3 times already because i did not put new struts on in replacement of the stock ones.. But hey good thing is I am a pro at replacing suspension now.. I can get the whole car done in 3 hours

Aw, man, turb! So now you want to roll through the canyon instead of carving it? If I were you, I would hit up some Tein or JIC for that wikkid Talon of yours. ;)

I installed Sportlines on 8yr old stock struts with over 150k on them. They collapsed on their own when there was no spring to hold them out. I slapped on the springs and hauled mothafuckin ass across the desert at 120mph to MOD back in April.

Since then, my friends all chipped in to buy me a set of GR-2s for my birthday a couple weeks after MOD. They said something about not wanting me to be dead or something like that.

Can you do it? Sure. Should you do it? No. Will you do it? (Considering you're out of Kansas, like me?) More than likely. LOL.

Now, don't quote me on this, but Undisputed (on here), is rolling on Teins with stock shocks, and has been for a long while. I think the only thing still keeping him in the game is the fact that the Tein springs only drop a little over an inch, not causing a lot of wear to stock shocks.

I agree, you should install shocks, but not only for the ride, but just to save you trouble. If you just install springs, and decide to put shocks on later, you're going to have to go back and install the struts/shocks through the same arduous process.

Pinoy - I used Corbin's writeup to install my shocks if you still haven't done it.

coming from someone who's been stuck riding on the stock shocks/struts with the sportline 1.75" drop for well over 2 years now, change the fucking shocks at the same time u lower ur car!!! if u don't, ur shocks will go to shit within a month and afterwards u're stuck w/ bouncing up n down like u're on a goddamn pogo stick after each n every bump u come across. every night i dream of the day that i can spare the cash for a set of tokico blues or something of similar fashion so i don't have to live w/ the feeling of being a female porn-star, continually bouncing up n down and the sore ass. just a spare cent or two from someone who's been livin the nightmare for far too long.

lol no man, the talon even on sportlines handled like a beast. i need new suspension though, sacramento roads SUCK bro. JIC and tein? tein is wack in my honest opinion for our cars, my buddy chris has them and i walk him around like a dog on the street. JIC is sick as hell, but i cant shell out the money right now being a brokeass college kid.

NOT going with stock dampeners. no way, no how.

i still need some input from guys with 18's...im thinking prokits, i dont like wheel gap and dont want it to stiff
