Hi I live in the UK and have one of the few imported Eclipses over here. I Have fitted 18 inch wheels and now have a whining problem, I went to by local mitsubishi dealer who told me I can only replace the hubs not just the bearing @ a cost of wait for it... £255 per wheel! As the dealer will have to import the parts (they do not sell the eclipse here) I wondered if I can buy just the bearing or the hubs from a US dealer. Help please I have no money for this!

Did the whining astart when you put on the 18s? Is there a hub centric ring in your wheels?

No the wheels have been on for 6months or so the car is a 97 GS and has covered 53,000 miles.

You could try US dealers, but I don't know what shipping will be like oversea. I don't suggest driving on it too much though. That can lead to bad things.

do you feel anything on your steering wheel when it whines? if so it's the bearing assembly. cost me 180 american. wasnt hard to put on just pull the brakes off and pull it out. if it's your bearing assembly you should fix that fast before you strip your axles down and have to replace them too

Just an FYI...I recently took my car in to check for bad bearings/Hubs and it truned out to be the brake shield. This is the third time that the shield has rubbed against the rotor (I think?). You could always hear the whining when turning and sometimes on a straight-away...Hope this is the actual problem, instead of the overly expensive quote you got!
