Has anyone had to remove/install one of these? I know some have, and I have a little bit of an idea where to get started, but how much of a pain in the ass is this really to do? I'm replacing this because the person I bought the car off of drilled a hole through his firewall and went right through the booster. :wallbash

Any help/tips, what to look out for etc...would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Heh. You know my take on it, but I'll jot it down here for future search usage. :thumbsup

When I removed that thing, the firewall and dash were all that was left of the car. It was a bit on the frustrating side. What you can see from the engine bay is a larger, UFO-shaped thing, but there is a shaft that goes through the firewall and connects to the brake pedal assembly. It is bolted to the car from inside the cabin, up under the dash.

I suspect you will need to remove the ASD/Fuel relays, clutch master, a couple resevoirs, and the battery in the least. I bet it takes some work to get it out once you've made sure that it is both unbolted from the pedal assy and firewall.

it's a bit of a PITA, not impossible though. there is a LOT of stuff in the way and very little room to manuever a ratchet around. Just be patient and you'll get it done. One peice of advice I can give you is to disconnect everything else and then disconnect the unit from the firewall last, it'll make your day a littl bit easier. good luck

I owned that son of a bitch last night. You can see where the previous owner drilled a hole right into the bitch. Took me about 30-40 mins to get it out. Main PITA was a couple hardlines being in the way, and getting a ratchet up inside under the dash to get the 4 main bolts holding the unit in.

Had to remove the clutch master and brake fluid resovoir, disconnect 2 hardlines and a bracket holding 3 hardlines together just below the brake booster. Inside under the dash, you need to remove the cotter pin that connects to the brake pedal, then remove the 4 nuts. You're done.
