2786, This may be a stupid question.... Posted by IowaRS_racer, Jun-11-01 12:35 PM
Okay eventually Im gonna do some major tweaking with my suspension, so I was wondering what I should be looking to get, and any suggestions on the order in which to do so. First I have to say that I auto-x, and want to take it seriously... So within the next two weeks( big two day event, night race!!) Im ordering a front upper strut tower bar(either Nuespeed or Eibach, I want performance not looks)And I plan on making my rear one. Then Im kinda stumped on whether to get a front sway bar or coilovers.... And when I get the coilovers what exactly am I getting???? Im kinda confused, am I getting the whole shock assembly or what... If I dont get the shock with the kit is it that important to get aftermarket shocks, the problem is money.... I mean If I order coilovers and get the adj. kind will I destroy my factory shocks before I can upgrade them (a month or so later???) Sorry for being so long but Im really confused!! Thanx

I'll tell you one thing, you can get the neuspeed Strut bar and the eibach one. The Neuspeed mounts in a different spot that any other strut bar on our cars so you can have two!!

"To strive to seek to find... and not to yield."Fast420A do you have the Eibach Strut Tower Brace? If so where did you get it?
Okay now for Iowa. I don't suggest coilovers, now becaus eyou won't handle like a bad ass, but they bump you up a class. Go to SCCA.org and check the rules on what class you want to be in. If you move yoruself up to Street Preped (I think it is) you won't be able to compete. Unles you ar eturbo, to keep up here you need a beat of a suspension and nice power to pull in the straight-a-ways. If you haven't get some nice tires. I installed my 17" and 215s and the difference was unbelievable! STB all around are good.
I also want to start to get into autocross and I think the biggest thing is to work around the class you can be cometative. Of course we'll see how I do at the shootout. Will be my first time through the cones so you guys can all laugh at me.
Also you need a helmet, and so do I.

If you are really serious about Auto-Xin then you should invest in a complete coilover system like a tanabe sustec pro. Also, definately get sway bars like my suspension techniques sways that are front adj. Get all the strut and tie bars, some light racing rims with good tires (kumho race tires) and some good brakes and your set. Good luck with everything road racing and auto-x is where da FUN really is! :}

Oh yea... u know i be pimpin!

Yeah Ive got wider tires Summitom HTRZ 2 225/45/17 and an Iceman CAI, Konig Mozart muffler, but other than that its all... The two times that Ive gone theyve put me in E street modified, as a novice (you get four times to race before your not considered a novice) the first time I ran my PAX index made me the fastest of the novices so I won, but this last time I raced against a Galant VR4 ans a suped up prelude... the others I wasnt worried about but am I gonna be in the wrong class??? What exactly are the restrictions for street prepared?? I joined the SCCA and got the rule book but its kinda confusing it seems as though I can race in either catagory......I think that the most part I need to work on driving technique... and not get trashed the nighrt before an event!!! THanks guys

That does suck about the Neuspeed Strut bar. I am glad I got mine like 1 1/2 years ago when they first came out. My other front STB is a Tenzo Bar but any bar is going to make a difference in the handling of the car. I just looked at my RRE lower front bar and it's bent toward the back of the car so I guess one of the few times I hit it, it fucked it up.
