27789, camber issues

Yesterday I took my rims off to clean the insides of the rims and I noticed that my tires were wearing unevenly. All the insides of each tire were pretty worn down. About 3000 miles ago I lowered my car 1.3 in the front and 1.7 in the rear. I'm sure the springs have settled in a little more than that but that’s what I did. Then about 500 miles latter I installed a rear camber kit and a front kit. The rear is just five washers witch spaced out the control arm by about 5/8ths of an inch. In the front I have some generic camber thing that's only on one side. When I got my alignment the guy said the front on one side was off -1.3 deg the other was only off -.23 deg.

This problem really worries me, I just recently put my winter tires on and I’m worried that they will ware down in just the same manner and be destroyed also. I'm honestly not too thrilled about my situation. Is there something I should do to correct the situation? Maybe try a better camber adjuster in the front and more washers in the rear? I don't think I can really add many more washers. I'm pretty close to a point were I shouldn't add anymore. I’m afraid that the bolts will shear if add any more.

What do you guys think I should do in order to fix this problem?

Thanks.

your problem is you didnt align the car
and its the toe that is probably the major cause.

go to the alignment shop and take washers and let them adjust and align it correctly..
problem solved

Yes I did get it done, twice actually, read the bottom of the first paragraph. However this has got me thinking. I recently had to replace a CV joint. Do you need to get an alignment after that?

Also, how could I bring the washers with me? All the places I’ve gone wouldn't enjoy this sort of down time. I guess something needs to be done though.

YES. Any little thing you do to the suspension, you SHOULD get an alignment check.

You have a camber prob if you are off a degree. The alignment machines (mostly Hunter) already have the specs of your car and make that number zero. From there the tech can tell how far away from spec the car is. Almost no car has zero camber. Either your tech doesn't know OR CANNOT adjust the front camber adjusters. I know my Sprint camber kit in the front need a very slim wrench to adjust them. If you have a toe prob, you'd have a ton of tire scrub to make your tires wear inside out.

yeah, i bought mine second hand and the guy didn't send me a wrench. I couldn't find any thin enough to make it in there. does anyone know where i can find one? Or do i need to do some grinding. I guess i just need in invest in a proven camber kit.

this kit here. what's the lower one, does it do the rear camber adjustment? I've never seent his one before. Also what's up with the rear kits where the have a slot where the bot boes thru it and you place a whasher thru it with an offset hole . like this one, is that like a fine adjustment once you got everything to gether?

youve got all the parts you need
now take it to an alignment shop and get it correctly aligned.

and Ive taken the washers in (just dont got to a large chain)

I slapped the front ingalls kit on and through some washers and bolts in a bag and took it in, and they just slapped more washers on as needed and adjusted the front kits as needed.

your problem is your not aligned correctly, and again TOE can do more damage than camber being off

yeah, but i think i need a diffrent front kit. It only came with one camber adjuster for each side and then a longer screw for the other side of the A arm. I think this really changed the caster angle and not the whole assembly is hitting the back side of the finder when i hit large bumps. I think the kits that have four total front camber adjusters( one for each link of the control arm) are what i should be using right?

so sounds like you got 1/2 the front kit, no wonder.
Front camber kits should either be a bushing (2 per side 1 for each of the "A" arm) with an off center hole or a whole new control arm to chassis mount (2 per side) or an adjustable ball joint

is yours like this

those 4 bushings are 1 front kit

or like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/95-99-MITSUBISHI-ECLIPSE-INGALLS-FRONT-REAR-CAMBER-KIT_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33581QQitemZ7995470881QQrdZ1
that picture shows the camber kit for 1 side (see pic a little lower for how it goes)

yeah, mine looks like the second one in your fist post. Yeah, you are right i only have two of them. I think i need to buy a set of four, one for each point on the control arm. So i don't think i should even bother getting an alignment before i buy the proper camber adjusting kit.

I was looking at rears also because i know the bolts i used were pretty low quality and some of them had pretty bad thread condition when i installed them. I know better now, that's what i'm thinking about taking them appart and maybe running a tap back thru the threaded holes on the car and then using new quality grade bolts. So if i do that i was thinking that maybe i could get something that can be adjusted easier than just taking everything appart and throwing washers on it when i get to the alignmet place.

thanks for helping me though, I have messed around with this for quite a while and i just want to get it right this time and get my camber as close to 0 deg. as i can.

I think this is the kit i'm going to buy, this way i will get the frot right and then i can use the adjusting rear bars and not have to mess with washers in the back.

Also which is better the baljoint syle or the anchor bolt style kits for the front?

thanks

install it and go have your alignment done

and problem solved...

oh and there is NO WAY your car was aligned like it is right now with only half the kit.
dont go in there and ask them to adjust your camber
tell them you need an alignment, which includes toe/camber and caster on some vehicals

its impossible to adjust the toe or camber correctly with only 1/2 a camber kit
