27276, knocking sound in the passenger rear
Posted by talonguy2005, Jun-11-05 03:41 AM
Im not 100% sure what it is, but I think it is a blown strut or a strut going bad. But I keep hearing this knocking sound almost like two wood blocks smacking together whenever I hit the smallest bump. any opinions?

Could be the rear knuckle bushing, they have a habit of going bad on our cars.

I really have no clue where to look.

Like etx said, start by putting the rear up on jack stands, removing the rear wheels and just going over every bolt and bushing, making sure everything is good and tight and that the bushings aren't all dryrotted or cracked. It might be something real simple that you can find just by going over the rear suspension. My passenger side knuckle bushing deteriorated to the point that just about the whole thing had fallen out, sounded exactly like what you are describing. My Haynes manual is at work and I'm at home right now but I'll try to scan the diagram that shows it tomorrow and post it.

I'd check everything while you have the car up in the air, but my main suspect would be the bushing where the pink arrow is

I had this a few weeks ago and it sounded bad. Very very lound. I didn't have a breaker bar with and my lug nuts were too damn tight so I didn't get a chance to check it out and then about 2 days later it was gone and I haven't heard it since.

I had the same bushing go bad a while back, I just replaced all of them with new urethane bushings.

You don't, by chance, have coilovers, do you?
