Axle puller from Snap on part number cj129. I think i paid 70.00 for it and it is made to take a beating.





THis is the kit, notice the "dogbone" its incase you dont have an impact, you use this so you have something to hit with a large hammer.

thats hott terry. where did you pick that up from?

I had one stuck the first hub that went out. I used a 8.8 grade nut and a 5lb sledge. Came right loose.

And I have a marvelous little gouge that goes right to the sheet metal from trying to break the passenger side nut loose. Them are some evil bastards to crack the first time in several years, eh? Looks like a sweet tool, Terry.

This should help, I'll be pulling axles soon and I know for a fact one of the knuckles is rusted to shit. The other was replaced under the ball-joint recall due to the separation causing the axle to pop out and my mechanic hooking me up to get the parts for free. Always good to have someone you know from the family work at a dealer.

You should also post part numbers and pictures of the hub, spindle, and axle for those who can't get it to budge even with the right tools. I had to throw the whole assembly away on my 2 year old car after 6 tons of pressure in a press only managed to bend the spindle and the end of the axle!

Impact seems to work better than pressure. For some reason, a drastic change in the amount of pressure that is applied seems to work better for breaking things loose. I am not sure if the axle puller tool will really provide that, though. I think that the best bet is to loosen the nut, and whack on it HARD with the biggest f'n hammer that you can find. Don't whack the end of the halfshaft, though, as it will mushroom out, and need to be cut.

You hit the puller Bill, see how the end is real heavy....when you get it cranked down and it wont budge take a hammer and wack it a few times. You cant do that with a press.

That's true, it is more of an impact than a press is. I might just need to get one.

id never use a tool like that for the axle...just use a hammer :shrug

I got it off the other day, had to heat the nut up a little bit.

the last car i parted out...the axle was so bad hitting it with a mini sledge just mushroomed the end of it. had to get another cv from the junkyard and put it on the axle. Hammer wont work in all cases

well i mean, dont smash on the threads and they wont get smashed...

i just used a mini sledge and a socket about the same diameter as the inside as the head of the axle

thats just an extra tool in the toolbox in my honest opinion
