26445, Help with new tires Posted by MattitudeV1, Feb-25-05 02:03 PM
First time buying new tires and need help chosing good all-season performance tires. I need 205/55-16, handling and treadwear are most important. The roads are REALLY BAD where I live. Interested in Yokahama Avid V4S. Also could use links on good sites to buy online.

Do a search. Tires have been discussed extensively.
When checking the sites below, look at a high 300 to low 400 treadwear. Yok do not last as long as others with similar treadwear.
Performance/handling do not go hand in hand with high mileage tires. The harder compound does not stick as well. If you like long lasting tires and plan to keep them a very long time. Buying local with road hazard, free rotation/balancing and free flat fixes can actually save you money in the long run.
If you really want an all season tire, you might consider an H-rated tire. They usually have a higher treadwear and last quite a bit longer. They are usually better in the rain/snow due to deeper grooves in the tread. The high performance tires are all about contact patch. The less grooves (smaller) the better.
