My car needs to be lowered, but Im not sure whether to go with springs or Coilovers.

The good thing about springs are that they are cheaper than coilovers. And they ride smoother then coilover, or so I've heard.

Coilovers on the other hand allow me to adjust my ride hieght any time I want to, which is a bug PLUS in snowy condition.

If i was to get springs, I would prolly get Eibach Pro Kit. If I was getting coilver, it seems Skunk2 would be the best way to go.

What do you gusy think?

Lowering Springs

If you can change your springs by yourself than I think you should get springs. If you have to pay someone or a shop to do it that I would go coil-overs because paying $100 each time to put on new ones you could have just bought a full-coilover suspension.

I've had both H&R Springs and Skunk2 coilovers. The coilovers are a LOT stiffer than springs, so I would recommend springs for daily driving. Unless you really want the ride height adjustability (or need it), I would go with springs. I personally needed to get my front a lot higher (almost stock height), and had camber probs with the lowering springs. It really depends...if you're willing to change back to stock springs yourself, then you shoudl get lowering springs. If you don't want to keep doing installs, then get coilovers...

I agree with a lot of the good points Marcus made.

For me, I knew once I had the car lowered to a desired heighth, and had the camber adjusted accordingly, it wasn't going to make much sense for me to have some adjustable coilovers to throw everything out of whack after adjustment (camber, toe, alignment...etc.)

Also, knowing that springs offer a better ride quality than coilovers clonched it.

However, if I were a show-guy type or one into achieving that best possible handling setup, I would recommend them. The adjustability factor with coilovers could be well worth it!

Well, I have Skunk2's on my car, and they are very good quality. The ride quality is great, until all my stock struts blew....now it's...well...turbulence. Bought mine for only $100. I think the guy I got them from stole them or something...heh. Anyhow, with coilovers, you can select you ride height, whatever you want, then set your camber..toe etc -- and if you ever want to lower it for cool pics or at shows, you can do that too temporarily.

Hey Ryan, your ride quality is good with skunk2? I have them with KYB GR-2, and it is really STIFF, it hurts your back after a while. It doesn't really bounce. Also, when going fast and hitting a big bump in the freeway, do you hear the rear springs make a loud clanking noise? I think its from the whole shock assembly getting extended higher than the 7 inch springs, so it makes a loud noise when the top collar lands back on the spring. Ya think that's right?

you could do like me and get both. i got full, uncut progress springs sitting on adjustable collars. spring ride quality with coilover and damping adjustability, its perfect.

Mine is a little stiff now, but only because my struts are blown. Before my struts went out, there was a little bounce, and the quality was good.

That clanking noise you hear, is definately because of your coilovers. I have heard mine do that before, particularly on the rear. I'm not sure exactly what it is, probably the collar of the coilover hitting something. I wouldn't worry about it, as long as you only hear it seldomly.

p.s. Know where I can get some performance struts for a good price?

Hmmm I get a much smaller clanking noise in the rear on one side every time I go up a driveway. Do you hear that? It seems that one side of the car will have the shock assembly fully extended (since when you go up the driveway at an angle, one side of the car is higher than the other). Then when I get up the driveway, I hear it clank as it falls back down even...for struts, the KYB Gr-2 actually work with the skunk2 coilovers (with knocked off spring perches) and they are about 65 a piece I believe...if you can't find a good deal, I can get them for you for about 65 each plus shipping...

About going up the drive ways, and hearing the clank, that is the only clank I've heard from mine. Your 'high speed highway clank' could be something different. However, every once in a while, when I go up a driveway, there is a small clank from my rear- usually left side. But it happens so seldomly to me, I don't worry about it. Probably only 1 time out of every 20 I go up a driveway.

I can't afford those struts yet....maybe in the near future.
